SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment today announced that Fox Sports Florida will re-air Florida’s 2011-12 regular season opening night game against the New York Islanders on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.
In the club’s season opener the Panthers blanked the Islanders 2-0, as Head Coach Kevin Dineen earned his first National Hockey League regular season win. The game marked the Panthers debut for several players including RW Kris Versteeg, LW Tomas Fleischmann, LW Scottie Upshall, RW Tomas Kopecky, C Marcel Goc, LW Sean Bergenheim, D Brian Campbell and G Jose Theodore. In addition, D Erik Gudbranson made his NHL debut, while D Ed Jovanovski returned for his second stint with the Cats.
C Stephen Weiss, the team’s longest tenured player, opened the scoring for the Panthers tallying the eventual game-winner on the power play in the first period, while Campbell added a pair of assists.
Theodore turned away 27 shots to earn his first win in a Panthers uniform, becoming the first Florida goaltender to earn a shutout in his debut with the team.
