SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers prospect C Vincent Trocheck has been named the 2013 recipient of the Red Tilson Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding player in the Ontario Hockey League.
The honor marks Trocheck’s second major award of the season, after earning the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as the OHL’s top scorer. Trocheck finished the 2012-13 regular season registering 109 points (50-59-109) in 63 games played for the Saginaw Spirit and Plymouth Whalers. Additionally, he ended the regular season with a 21-game point scoring streak. Trocheck led Plymouth in the playoffs with 24 points (10-14-24) in 15 games, before their elimination in the Western Conference Finals.
“We are extremely proud that Vincent has been selected as the OHL’s Most Outstanding Player of the Year,” said Florida Panthers Executive VP/GM Dale Tallon. “Vincent had an exceptional season this year capturing the OHL scoring title, while leading Plymouth in scoring during the playoffs. He is one of our prospects who has matured and developed through hard work and dedication since being drafted. We are excited about his continued growth and development within our organization.”
Trocheck is the second consecutive player with a Panthers tie to win the Red Tilson Trophy. G Michael Houser (free agent signed by Florida on July 10, 2012) was awarded the trophy last season while playing with the London Knights.
The Pittsburgh, PA native won a Gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championship, scoring three goals with two assists in the tournament.
Trocheck was selected by Florida in the third round (64th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He signed an entry-level contract with the Panthers on Apr. 23, 2012.
