Hi Richard ,

I wish you to get well soon and I'm sure you'll be back on your feet real quick.
I was horrified by seeing this incident on TV and I could just think about what happened to goalie Clint Malarchuck about 20 years ago when he got cut the same way as you did on a breakaway.

I'm sure that you'll be back soon the same way as you did when you got hit by Mclaren in the playoffs while you were playing for the Canadiens.

I hope to see you back on your skates and scoring a lot of goals (Not too much against Montreal though...)

Alex Melancon  - Montreal, Quebec

We are Panther fans since inception, and you are one of our favorite players. You and your family are in our prayers. I am a firm believer in FAITH and Modern Medicine. Hi, Richard, Jessica & Panthers family,

We're so relieved to hear that you're recovering comfortably. Even we Red Wings fans wish you a fast recovery! Thank goodness you had the courage to skate to your own bench. It sounds as if the medical teams were super, as well.

Heal quick, skate fast and score much (when not playing the Wings, that is!). We're so grateful that you'll be back on the ice soon. And, as they say in one of those silly guy movies, "chicks really dig scars!" I'm sure Jessica will take you any way she can get you, after this!

Love,

Dear Richard:

I hope you get well soon and get back on the ice.
I saw first hand in the locker room on Saturday, when one of my son's Pee Wee teammates took a nasty gash to the thigh, just how dangerous the sport can be, even for kids.  I hope that hockey players worldwide at all levels, like my thirteen-year-old son, stay safe.  We look forward to seeing you with the Panthers when the team returns to Verizon Center later this season.

Sincerely,

Mark Fischer – Alexandria, Virginia

Richard,

As i sat there in disbelieve watching you skate off the ice towards the bench i could only think of one thing and that was your well being.  I was barely able to watch the replays of the injury as it was very graphic and just said there in silence hoping to hear some news about your situation.  I know Hockey is a rough sport but this is by far the worst i have ever seen in my lifetime, my prayers go out to you and your Family.

To Mr. Zednik,,

I am writing to you to send my well wishes for a speedy recovery. I am also writing to tell you that I too experienced the EXACT same injury while playing hockey. I am a goalie and my experience is that similar to Clint Malarchuk's where a skate accidentally managed to lacerate my throat just missing the jugular vein.

I want to pass along to you all the inner strength in the world as I am certain that you will no doubt recover from this physically but will have a challenge mentally just the same.

It would be my pleasure to offer you any support you may need in the healing process. The best cure is to be surrounded by family, friends, and to resume living life as a gift!

Godspeed to you,
Albert Elmaleh, Montreal, Quebec

Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing you play again....hang in there.....

It wasnt long ago that Richard was tearing up the ice in Montreal. He left us with some great memories and I think I speak for every hockey fan in Montreal when I say our thoughts and prayers are with Richard and his family and the entire Florida Panthers organization. We saw Richard sustain a serious injury in a playoff game against Boston some years ago and he returned. Richard is one tough athlete and I’m sure Florida and the hockey world will see him on the ice again. Hang in there Richard!

As a life long Sabres fan, I was naturally watching the game when your injury occurred. It immediately reminded me of the Clint Malarchuk incident many years ago. Me and my family sat down, waitng anxiously for news on your condition, and were extremely relieved when news came that you were stable and being transported to the hospital.

My family and I do wish you a very speedy recovery, and hope to see you back on the ice very soon!

Jason – Cheyenne, Wyoming

Hey Richard,

I was a big fan of yours in Mtl. You rocked with Koivu and Kovalev. I even met you at one of the Jamboree with my nephew and you were really great by siging a couple of things for us. Hope you have a speedy recovery...

Phil – Montreal, Quebec

Being in the DC area, we watched you play as a Capital, and being a Sabres fan I saw the accident.  Our thoughts and prayers were with you that day and night, as they continue to be, and our hope is you make a full recovery and find the courage to put this behind you and get back on the ice.  You've always been a gutsy player and it's always been a joy to watch you play.  I think the hockey world would understand that this would affect anyone and make playing the game almost impossible, but hopefully we'll be seeing you out on the ice again soon.  Get Well soon.  I'm sure the entire city of Buffalo is pulling for you too, as I'm sure fans all around the world are.

Jim – Alexandria, Virginia

I’m really glad your in stable conditions, it was just scary to watch it happen in buffalo again.

I hope your playing soon, your one of my favorite players.

Brandon – Baltimore, Maryland

Richard.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family today. I wish you a speedy recovery and get well soon. Watching the video, you are very lucky. When watching the clip, I had tears rolling down my face and still do. It scared me. I have a 5 year old boy who plays and I will buy him a neck guard this week. I am a Hurricanes fan and The Panthers come here this weekend. I am sure all fans here will show support for you. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU. GET WELL SOON.

Jean Rogers – Cary, North Carolina

Hi!, My name is Julie and I was one of your fan when you were in Montreal and you're still one of my best player. I was so scared when I heard about the accident... I hope you'll get back soon :)

Thank you,, Julie – Montreal, Quebec

Richard

I am so glad to hear that you are doing okay. It was so scary to see what happened on television! Good thing you skated to the bench quickly and saved valuable time. I hope you continue to heal, and that you'll be back in the lineup scoring hat tricks in no time! We love you and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Love,
Ana – Miami, Florida

Dear Richard,

Even though i'm a huge Bruins fan and you've been a Bruin killer over the years, I sincerely wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery. As fans, we like to "hate" the opposing players...especially when they have the talent that you have, but none of us want any of you guys to be seriously injured. Being a player myself, it was very frightening to watch the video. Hopefully some good will come of your injury and the equipment manufacturers will design something to protect players both young and old from these terrible injuries. Once again, best of luck to you and your family.

Marcel – Concord, New Hampshire

Dear Richard,

All I can say is that I wish you the speediest recovery.  My heart goes out to you and your family and I can't wait to see you again on the ice real soon.  I'll be at Friday night's game against the Caps and I expect to see you there!!!

All the best,
Dana Lipson, 15 years old and a Panther season ticket holder since my Dad was carrying me to the games.

Richard and Family,

I Hope you are doing ok after all that had happened! I was at that game and right above where it happened. i couldn't believe what had just happened and i had to run out! I was sitting in the hall way just thinking about it. you aren't on the team i came to see but there are other players i like that aren't on buffalo, and your 1. then they announced that you were getting sent to the hospital and you were in stable condition. that made me feel a little better, but people were in the hall explaining it and i felt so bad. that was all i could thing about until i heard that you are ok. I hope you feel better and get back soon ,

Love Taylor!! <3333333 – Buffalo, New York

Best wishes to you Richard and your family for a full recovery. Players may be traded but true fans never forget the hard work you did for the Canadiens.

Danielle – Montreal, Quebec

Being a fan of yours since your days in montreal...last night was a scary moment and i hope soon you will be able to get back up and play...the panthers rely alot on your play and i bet they can't wait until you're better....hang in tough and hopefully we'll see you soon.

AJ – Buffalo, New York

Get well Richard.....

All of a sudden it's not about which team wins or loses, it's about a player down and hurt. I can't imagine how the teams managed to play the rest of the game with all of their thoughts on you and your well-being.

I'm sure the prayers and support to you and your family will be in abundance. As it should be when such an accident occurs.

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery.

Please know that you are in the thoughts of the Buffalo fans.

I am so relieved to hear that you are doing ok. I was at the game and cannot fully express the immediate concern I felt for you, your family and your teammates.

We're only getting limited news as yet, but it certainly seems that you were able to get the medical attention you needed in time. My family and I are continuing to pray for your complete recovery. Best wishes and again -- we're just so happy you're well.

Take care and good luck.
Amy Strauss – Buffalo, New York

Good morning Richard, my family and I are die hard Bruins and hockey fans, but this is more important than team rivalries (or you guys beating my team on Saturday night).  We're very glad to here that you are recovering.  That was very scary for a fan to watch, never mind having to experience it.  Best wishes for you and your family in the days ahead.  Hope to see you skating again soon.

Michael – Bedford, Massachusetts

All the best, Richard! You are going to be okay! With sincerest wishes for your full recovery, from, an old hockey fan.

Annie – Las Vegas, Nevada

My husband and I were at the game last night and we saw what happened.  From a fan standpoint none of us could think about anything other than whether or not you were okay.  We stood in silence frantically trying to find out any news about whether or not you were okay.  When they finally made the announcement you were in stable condition we were all so relieved.  Even though the game went on and we are sabres fans it didn't feel right to cheer.  I don't know what you're experience of buffalo fans are but I just wanted to let you know that we would have gladly given up the game if it was cancelled there are more important things.  Your teammates and the sabres couldn't think of anything else but you.  I am sure you will read and see things over the coming weeks, but the one thing that always  impressed me about the nhl and hockey players and the reason my husband and I are fans is the loyalty.  No matter how bitter things might seem during a game you guys always come together when it counts.  I don't think there was a player, coach, staffer or fan that would have done anything that had to be done to make sure you were okay.  Of course we have been checking the news and upon hearing that you are resting and the surgery went well we are so glad.  How brave and fast thinking it was of you to realize what was going on and skate yourself to the bench that was the thing that impressed us the most.  Anyway my husaband and I wanted to send our thoughts to you and your family and wish you a speedy recovery.

Sincerely,
Debbie & Charlie Piotrowski – Alden, New York

God Bless you and your family and your team mates, scary stuff kido, but it sounds like you’re physically on the mend.  Stay Safe!!

Richard,

We were shocked when watching the game live.  We quickly just paused to pray for you -- a LOT of things had to happen quickly and in the right order for your safety!, , Obviously, we only know you as a hockey player and we didn't want to lose you.  But you are also husband/dad...that loss would be even worse.

May God bless you and your family!!
Joe & Stephen – Davie, Florida

Best wishes to you and I'm praying for your quick recovery. You're an exciting player to watch and I can't wait for you to come back.

Jeff – Portage la Prairie, Canada

Kristoffer – Katrineholm, Sweden

Richard,

I have only one lengthy hockey injury in my past that I can recall. Two of my teammates helped me skate off the ice, since I sustained a high ankle sprain. However, it is completely incomparable to what you had to deal with last night. I couldn't believe how brave you were out there. You still had recognition that you were in danger and showed the sense of urgency to grab your wound and get off the ice as quick as possible., , I realize that you have only been with our hockey club for 54 games, this season, but it seemed like a lifetime after witnessing the last game. I was watching the game on television with my buddy and when we heard Goldstein's voice saying that you were hurt in the corner of the ice, both of us felt like your distant family or something. As a fan of the Florida Panthers and of yours, I hope to see you back on the ice as soon as possible. You are one of the hardest working guys on the team and whether you score or not, you are always making a difference out on the ice. I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for your game and I love watching you fly, shoot, and score. Nonetheless, I'm just glad that you made it through that tough moment last night. The Florida Panther family is with you all the way, Richard. Please get well soon man, so we can see that #20 jersey and that long hair flyin' down the wing with the puck.

You're the best Zed.

Sincerely,
Mike Costantino – Boca Raton, Florida

God luck man,
Anton – Landskrona, Sweden

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You have shown great courage- miracles do happen on ice. Get well soon!!

Kimberly – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Hey Richard,

What happened that night was absolutely horrifying and I applaud your strength and courage to get yourself off the ice and in the hands of the medical staff. Remember that freak accidents like this can happen anywhere, anytime, in any profession but it is few a far between. You are lucky to be surrounded by so much support, as we are lucky as fans to enjoy your outstanding talents. As a diehard Panther fan I wish you a speedy recovery, as I will miss your talents during the stretch drive to the playoffs but you should take your time, make sure you are fully healed before you return. Most Panthers fans would say the same. , , Being a Panther fan living in Toronto, I was at the leaf-panther game last week. Definitely the most entertaining hockey event I have ever attended. Your hat trick was amazing, and well deserved. I have been watching most of the games this year and I have always marveled at the way you drive to the net and create scoring opportunities. I was about to throw my hat on the ice but I was wearing a Beatles hat that i just could not part with. Next time I will wear a hat that I don't mind losing.

Andrew Noddin – Toronto, Ontario

Get well soon.  I am praying for your quick recovery may god bless you.

Paul – Glendale, New York

Richard,

My family and I sat in front of our TV all last night patiently waiting to hear any updates on your health, nobody would go to sleep until we heard that you had been stabilized and were resting after being operated on. We've been fans of the Panthers for 10+ years and care for you all like you're part of our family. We all look forward to you getting back on the ice and hopefully you're well enough to help bring us back to the playoffs.

You're in our prayers.

You never want to see anyone get a injury like that and everyone here in Buffalo had to watch it for a second time in history. OUR FLORIDA PANTHERS TEAM WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT YOU SO GET WELL AND BACK ON THAT ICE; WE HAVE LOTS MORE GAMES TO BE WON!

TAKE CARE,BEST WISHES AND MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

EDWYNNA CHUMLEY – Deerfield Beach, Florida

Dear Richard,

I hope that you will make a full and quick recovery from the serious injury you suffered last night in the game against Buffalo.  I also send good wishes to your family, it can only be imagined how difficult this must have been for your wife and daughter.

It was a very hard thing to watch as a Panthers fan too, but it was also amazing to see you thinking so clearly and skate quickly to the bench after it happened. I know the rest of the team's hearts couldn't have been in the game after you were taken to hospital, but as professionals I guess they just had to carry on.

I have been a Panthers fan for several years, hockey is the only sport I enjoy watching - my husband has followed the Panthers since the beginning and is also a huge supporter.  We have two half season tickets and our 14 year old daughter attends games too when school allows., , Please take care of yourself and hopefully you will be able to return to the team very soon.  You are a valuable member of the Panthers and they need you to help them finish this season successfully!  I have never before been moved to tears by watching a sports injury, thankfully it sounds like you will be ok and no doubt back on the ice as soon as the doctors allow.

Rest and recover soon, and GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Richard:

With any sport comes a risk.  I myself play many sports.  When I first started to wrestle in 7th grade I only weighed 67 lbs.  The problem is that I wrestled people that were 40-50 lbs heavier than me.  I had many injuries including neck and lower back.  The risks I take to do something I enjoy is worth nothing as long as I love what I do.  You are a great hockey player who takes many risks.  I have always wanted to play hockey but I have never gotten that chance.  You greatly encourage me, more than any player in this sport.  I can't wait till you return.  My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.  My God give you the strength and courage to continue this sport.

David – Perry, New York

I am confident you will receive great medical attention from the Buffalo area doctors, they are some of the best in the world. You are in great hands, and it's great to hear you are doing better and resting, and proceeding to the road of recuperation. It was very scary to see such a great player like you to go through that, and you deserve all the credit in the world to be able to skate back to the bench on your own power, and be able to take care of yourself. God Bless you, and I hope you can return to the ice sometime soon, you are a great player, and a great man.

Your friend in Buffalo,
CJ Caggiano
