Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT)

1 - Playing in just the third game of his career against his former team, Niklas Hagman scored his first goal against the team he spent the first four years of his career with. Hagman took on three Panthers defenders while slicing to the front of the net and beating Craig Anderson for his 14th of the season.

16Gregory Campbell netted his 11th of the season to knot the score at one but Toronto built a 3-1 lead with a two goals goals 2:33 apart in game time, off 16th of the season from two Maple Leafs forwards. Alex Ponikarovsky scored his 16th with 19.2 seconds left in the first and Nik Antropov one-timed the puck into the back of the net for his 16th just 2:11 into the second.

5 – Making a nice cross-ice pass to set up Stephen Weiss for his ninth of the season, Cory Stillman picked up his fifth assist in the last four games. Stillman had an assist against Philadelphia and then picked up three helpers against the Canadiens. His 17 assists are tied for second on the team with Nathan Horton. Weiss has 26.

33 – Owning what seemed to be most of the game, the Maple Leafs mad a mistake with 1:25 left in the game. It cost them. Ponikarovsky was put in the box with 85 seconds left for boarding and 33 seconds later, 52.3 seconds left on the clock, Stillman knotted the score at three. Sitting to the right of the net, he rebounded Weiss’ point shot over Vesa Toskala for his 11th of the season.

6 – For the second straight game, a defenseman led the Panthers in shots on goal with six. Nick Boynton had six against the Islanders on Saturday and Tuesday night it was Bryan McCabe’s turn. The former Leaf led the Cats with six and the last one was the most important as it gave the Panthers a victory. McCabe’s first against his former team (12 games) and 10th of the season came with 1:30 left in overtime.

3 – For the second time in the last three games (Montreal), Weiss graced the scoreboard three times. Those three points came on a goal and two assists once again. He scored 2:11 into the final period of play to bring the score 3-2 and then registered the second assist on Stillman and McCabe’s goals.

2 – For the second time this season the Panthers came back from a two-goal deficit. The first came six games ago as the Panthers came back from a similar 3-1 deficit to earn a 4-3 victory in Tampa Bay on January 17th.

100 – Only getting one power play opportunity against the Leafs, the Panthers made it count with Stillman’s fifth of the season on the man advantage. While Florida’s power play unit was 23rd in the league in scoring percentage at 16.5, they’ve been good away from the BankAtlantic Center scoring at a clip of 18.3% of their opportunities (15th).

4 – Led by Weiss’ three points, the Panthers had four players with multi-point games as Stillman and Campbell finished with a goal and an assist while Nathan Horton registered his third multi-assist game of the year (2 assists). Toronto on the other hand had one player reach the scoreboard more than once, defenseman Jeff Finger who picked up two assists.

1 (part II) – It was a season’s first for the Panthers. Down 3-1 and heading into the final period of play the Panthers did something they had not done this season and that was come back to win a game after trailing after two periods. Before Stillman tied it and then McCabe scored win it, Florida was 0-16-4 when trailing heading into the final period of play.
