Panthers to Opening Training Camp Sept. 14

OTTAWA, ON - In a hard-hitting and high-paced game the Florida Panthers (0-3-1) prospects were edged, 2-1, by the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-0-0) in both club's final game of the 2005 Ottawa rookie tournament. Florida's first round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, RW Anthony Stewart added the lone goal for the Cats with just 12 seconds to play in regulation and finished the four-game tourney with a team leaing 13 shots on goal.

C Rob Globke paced the Cats prospects with three points (1-2-3) and ranked second on the club with 12 shots on goal for the rookie tournament. LW Kenndal McArdle, Florida's first round draft choice in this past July's draft notched an assist with eight shots on goal in his first rookie camp appearance. Cats 2004 first round draft pick C Rostislav Olesz completed his first Panthers camp recording a pair of assists and 11 shots on goal. The Panthers prospects out shot their opponents 148-130 in the tournament.

After a scoreless first 55 minutes of play, the Leafs lit the lamp when F John Mitchell found the back of the net at 15:38. Just over two minutes later, Toronto added their second of game and the eventual game-winner on an empty net tally off the stick of D Steven Later at 18:30, while the Cats were on the power play.

In the final game of the 2005 Ottawa rookie tournament the host Ottawa Senators (1-1-1) take on the Montreal Canadiens (1-2-0) on Saturday evening.
