Panthers and MetroPCS present Stars of Tomorrow
American Idol-type Youth Singing Contest To Take Place Before Panthers Games In March and April
SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment (SSE) and the Florida Panthers announced today a special partnership with MetroPCS where it will present Stars of Tomorrow, a youth solo singing contest, similar to the popular television show "American Idol," that will take place prior to select Panthers games in March and April.
"The American Idol phenomenon has taught us that there are many talented youths in this country that deserve an opportunity to be heard," said Leon Garza, general manager for MetroPCS in South Florida. "Creating the Stars of Tomorrow contest allows MetroPCS to continue its involvement with the local community by making a dream come true for some South Florida youths. It will also afford local citizens the opportunity to be entertained by home-grown talent prior to Florida Panthers home games."
"The Stars of Tomorrow contest is a unique promotion developed in conjunction with our creative partners at MetroPCS," SSE chief operating officer Michael Yormark said. "The contest is a wonderful opportunity for South Florida music fans to come out and support our talented youth and take in an exciting Panthers home game as well."
Contestants can register at South Florida MetroPCS stores and the BankAtlantic Center throughout January. MetroPCS store locations can be found at www.metropcs.com. Then, on Feb. 1, every registered participant will be given a schedule of auditions, which will take place at the BankAtlantic Center in February.
A top 18 – nine from each age group (13-16 and 12 and Under) – will then perform on the MetroPCS Stage at the BankAtlantic Center before three Panthers home games in March. Three contestants from each age group will perform before the Carolina Hurricanes game on Friday, March 10, the New York Islanders game on Friday, March 17, and the New York Rangers game on Friday, March 24.
A panel of judges from MetroPCS, Y100.7FM and SSE will then choose three finalists from each age group. Those finalists will compete in the Stars of Tomorrow finals concert prior to the Panthers April 1 game vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning at the BankAtlantic Center.
The winner of each age group will then perform in the arena during the April 7 game vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. In addition, the winners will receive a Panthers prize pack, a $1,000 scholarship courtesy of MetroPCS and a new MetroPCS wireless phone with a free year of service.
