Jokinen Scores Game Winner in Overtime vs. Lightning
With less than two minutes left in overtime, Jozef Stumpel sent the puck down the ice to Olli Jokinen who scooped it up and sent it home, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-5.
Jokinen's game winner marked the 22nd of his career and placed him in a tie with Scott Mellanby for second of all-time in franchise history.
Stumpel recorded a three-point game that started in the second period as he jump-started a Panther attack of four goals in 15 minutes.
During the showcase, Jokinen dished back to a trailing Steve Montador on a founr-on-four who drove the puck past John Grahame for his first goal in a Panthers uniform.
Juraj Kolnik would strike next on a pass from Joel Kwiatkowski with the play being set up by Joe Nieuwendyk. That assist earned Nieuwendyk his 1,100th point, which puts him in ninth place among active NHL players.
Jozef Stumpel would score again and mark his sixth goal in seven games. Stumpel has been on fire as of late, recording 15 points in his last eight games.
Gregory Campbell and Gary Roberts also notched assists, with Roberts recording his first point since coming off a knee injury dating back to January 14th.
The Panthers next face the Washington Capitals on Wednesday at the BankAtlantic Center at 7:00pm.
