Florida Panthers Foundation Hosts Charity Firefighter Hockey Game

Charity Hockey Game will benefit fellow firefighter's daughters

The Florida Panthers Foundation announced that the BankAtlantic Center will host a special firefighters charity hockey game on Saturday, April 15th at 3 p.m. The East Coast Bomberos and the West Coast Firefighters hockey teams will take the ice to raise money for two ill daughters of firefighters.

"Our hope is for these little girls to recover and for their families to receive some relief from the financial burden caused by their illnesses," said Vice President of Community Development Randy Moller. "The Panthers Foundation is truly honored to be a part of such a worthy cause."

The firefighters will accept donations for Kendra – a three-year-old girl who is being treated for brain cancer – and Kaytlynn, a nine-month-old baby girl who just received a liver transplant. Charity game T-shirts and raffle tickets for a Florida Panthers team signed jersey, autographed sticks and pucks will all be available at the game. WPLG-TV channel 10 will cover the game with Jen Herrera acting as the Mistress of Ceremonies.

"These are two of our firefighter brothers who also play hockey with us whose children have come down with an illness that is placing a financial and emotional toll on the families," said Captain Bob Maloney of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "The game will try to offset some of those financial burdens for the families."

The firefighters for the East Coast Bomberos represent Miami-Dade, Sunrise, Pembroke Pines, Hallandale and Broward County firefighters.

Admission and parking is free for the charity game. In addition, the Florida Panthers will support the cause with special $20 tickets to their game against the Washington Capitals later that evening. Tickets can be purchased up until April 14 by calling Sara Bisman at 954-835-7255. The game, which is sponsored by Sprint Nextel, is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm.
