SUNRISE, Fla. - Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced that the City of Weston on Monday night approved plans for the design, management and operation of the Weston ice rink, slated to be built on a five-acre site on the northern portion of Vista Park.

"This is most definitely a step in the right direction in helping to get the Weston rink project underway," said Jeff Campol, Vice-President and General Manger of incredibleICE in Coral Springs. "Weston is a great community and with the addition of this new rink it will allow us to further grow both ice hockey and figure skating in South Florida."

The new Weston rink will include two National Hockey League regulation-size ice rinks, a pro shop, restaurants, a skater's lounge and three basketball courts. The new facility will also be able to convert into a multipurpose space to hold events such as volleyball games and gymnastic competitions. Once completed, the Panthers, who currently practice at incredibleICE, will begin to practice primarily at the new rink.

"We are delighted to get to this point after quite an extensive effort on both the part of the City of Weston and the Panthers," said City of Weston Mayor Eric Hersh. "We look forward to building a facility that will be utilized by our residents. This is really what a true public-private partnership should look like. I am confident that it will be a success."

Preliminary architectural drawings for the new rink are currently underway. The City of Weston will have the opportunity to vote to move forward with or to stop the project three more times. The Weston City Commission will review the architectural drawing at 50-percent completion, again at 80-percent completion and when they are 100-percent done.

incredibleICE is a 75,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, twin ice skating and entertainment facility located in Coral Springs. incredibleICE boasts one of the most competitive adult and youth ice hockey programs in the state of Florida.
