Red Deer and Goldie Give Their Stanley Cup Winner Predictions

Cats radio play-by-play announcer Steve "Goldie" Goldstein and analyst Randy "Red Deer" Moller provide us with their predictions on who will hoist this year's Stanley Cup.

Goldie

I don't want to get hurt patting myself on the back after the conference finals. Randy Moller struck out on the winners, while yours truly had the Canes in seven and the Oilers in six (Edmonton won in five). So here we are with an unlikely Stanley Cup finals between two teams no one thought would be here. I like Carolina to keep the Cup in the Panthers' division. They have veterans players who can smell the cup. Guys like Ray Whitney, Doug Weight and Rod Brind'Amour know this maybe their last shot. Cam Ward has been a star in goal and Eric Staal is playing like a future Hall of Famer in his first playoff series.

Edmonton is one of the few teams in the NHL that can skate with Carolina, so don't get up for a snack in the middle of the game because you may miss a lot. The series goes seven and the Cup will find a new home in Carolina. Like the conference finals against the Sabres, the Hurricanes will win the final game at home where they have been the league's best team this season.

Enjoy the finals and don't believe Moller's homering it up by picking the pride of Western Canada to win the Cup. Gretzky, Messier and Kurri don't play there any more Moles!

Red Deer

Obviously, Goldie did not watch the "Pride of Western Canada" the Edmonton Oilers demolish the "not so" Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the Western Conference Finals. The Oilers are healthy and rested to start the finals.

Former Hart and Norris Trophy winner defenseman Chris Pronger has been a "tower" of strength on the blue line and has also added an offensive presence for the Oilers. Shawn Horcoff, Ryan Smith, Fernando Pisani and Michael Peca all will continue their brilliant play in the playoffs.

Between the pipes, Dwayne Roloson (how good is that trade looking now Goldie) continues his Conn Smythe caliber post-season, and will match up well against Carolina's Stall, Brind'Amour, and the "Wizard" Ray Whitney. Edmonton's deafening home crowd will also play a crucial factor in the Oliers' success.

Sorry Goldie, your lucky streak is about to end. I like the Oilers in six. Roloson will be named the playoffs MVP, and the Cup will find a new home on the Western Prairies, the first time since 1990!!
