Florida Panthers Alumni Association Sponsors a Camper at incredibleICE Goalie School

Child's Dream of being a Goalie 'Finally Coming True'

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Florida Panthers Alumni Association recently announced Michael Chapdelaine as the recipient of a brand new set of goalie equipment and a scholarship to attend the Florida Panthers Goalie School at incredibleICE.

Chapdelaine, a 13-year-old student at St. Lucie West Middle School in St. Lucie County, has had an interest in hockey since attending a Panthers game for the first time in 2003. After hearing about the Florida Panthers Goalie School, Michael approached his parents about attending it. The cost of the camp, however, was too exorbitant for his parents to pay for both the camp and his goalie equipment. Instead of telling Michael he could not attend, his mother decided to write a letter to the Florida Panthers to see if they could help somehow offset the costs.

"The Florida Panthers Alumni Association received a letter from Michael's mother about his desire to attend the goalie camp at incredibleICE, but their budget did not allow for the expenses associated with attending," said Randy Moller, president of the Panthers Alumni Association. "Knowing this, it was an easy decision to donate this scholarship to him."

The Florida Panthers Alumni Association paid for Chapdelaine's week at goalie school, a hotel for him and his mother during the week so they are not commuting daily to camp, and brand new goalie equipment which includes: a blocker, catching glove, chest pad, goalie mask, neck guard, hockey pants, stick and skates.

"This has been a dream come true for me this week," Chapdelaine said. "It's been really cool and exciting having the players coaching me. They are really nice and very clear with instructions."

The goalie school features new Cats goalie Alex Auld and former NHL netminder Rob Tallas. The camp is designed for young players ranging from 7-17 years old, who desire to learn more about stance & recovery, net awareness, rebounds/angles, two-pad stack, five hole, poke/sweep check, butterfly moves, game situations, stick saves, skate/save, blocker techniques, and trapping. The camp will be from July 17-21 at incredibleICE in Coral Springs.
