Panthers Prospects Post 6-1 Victory Over York University in Rookie Tournament Opener
TORONTO, ON - The Florida Panthers prospects opened the 2006 rookie tournament with a 6-1 win over York University on Friday night at Ricoh Coliseum, led by a hat trick from C Drew Larman. Up next, the Panthers prospects take on the Montreal Canadiens rookies on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Cats prospects opened the scoring first when LW David Booth slipped the puck under the pads of York netminder Kevin Bruce at 2:46. In a penalty filled first period of play, the two clubs combined for 28 minutes in penalties, while the Panthers outshot York University 20-7.
York University knotted the game at one early in the middle frame when D Rob Bonhomme fired a shot past Panthers G Tyler Plante at 4:54. The Cats responded with C Alex Leavitt's first of the tournament at 6:14, followed by a pair of shorthanded tallies from C Drew Larman.
Just under two minutes into the third period, Larman completed the hat trick with his third of the game at 1:45. D Franklin MacDonald completed the Cats scoring for the night when he banged a rebound past the York netminder with less than a minute to play in the game.
In other rookie tournament action, the Montreal Canadiens play the host Toronto Maple Leafs in the late game on Friday at Ricoh Colisuem.
