Head Coach Jacques Martin

On the Team's performance overall...

"I thought we had a slow start in the first period. I thought we had too many turnovers and consequently, we only had three shots on net. I thought we adjusted after the first period. We simplified our game. We got pucks in deep a little more and did a good job forechecking. The second period was really strong. I thought we had a real strong performance tonight on Jokinen's line. Roberts and Horton, they scored some goals but played strong and played the offensive zone. Olli Jokinen was really good on the penalty kill and that was a key goal for us, that short-handed goal. So, I think it was an improvement for us over the last two games."

On Olli stepping up and doing the little things...

"There's no doubt, that's what you expect from your Captain. I think tonight was great leadership when you go out and do the little things and you play. You don't have to say much. Your teammates see that and that is the kind of game that we needed. Now we need to get everyone on board and get ready for Tampa who is another challenge."

On how important it was for the team to come out and perform well after the last few games...

"I think it's important. I think points are always the key as we learned last year in the second half. If you dig yourself a hole it's tough to make up points, especially now that a lot of games being worth 3 points. If a team loses in overtime or in a shootout, they still get a point. It's a tough battle if you get behind. I think we wanted to establish ourselves at home and we've had two good performances. Again, our specialty team, we just have to be a little better as far as staying out of the box."

On the importance of getting off to a hot start...

"I have to look at our own club. There are still lots of areas that we can work on to win hockey games consistently. Tonight I thought the goaltending was strong. He (Auld) made some big saves when he had to and that was the key."

On the importance of getting the first goal and staying ahead...

"It was big and we had some key goals at key times in the hockey game. After letting them off the hook with their second goal in the second period. We got a huge play out of Jokinen, a great hustle and a great job by Gary to get to the net. That goal was probably a turning point in the hockey game. If we don't score that goal, they go in between periods with some momentum. Carolina is a team that can come back, they had quite a few comebacks last year in the third period so that goal was really huge. Olli's score early in the 3rd period really put them in a hole. That was great."
