Post Game Comments

Head Coach Jacques Martin

On getting the win tonight...

Well, it's the kind of game I expected. The Flyers are a great team and they have some great players. You know they are going to work their way out of what they're in now. They are coming closer and closer every game. Just look at last night's performance and tonight. Tonight I thought again the difference was the specialty teams. They had the short-handed goal early in the game. They got the power-play goal, which was the winner. I thought we got some real strong performances out of some of our leaders.

On the 2nd goal that tied the game at two...

It was a real nice play with Van Ryn moving in on the play. I think we got a really strong job by the defense. I think they played a real solid game.

On the momentum shift to the Flyers in the first period...

I think that sometimes penalties can take you out of your game. Still, I really like the way we came out forechecking in the offensive zone, but in the neutral zone we created some turnovers. We had good puck movement in the offensive zone. We had some good chances and then we took some penalties. A couple of turnovers put us in trouble too coming out of our end. We tried to put the pucks in the middle when it wasn't there when the option along the boards was open. It doesn't take much sometimes to turn the momentum around. It did seem like they got some momentum and got some shots from it. Eddie was really strong as well.

On making defensive changes after the first goal...

You don't want to blame it (the changes) on the first goal. A couple of times we had some turnovers. I went with Kwiatkowski on defense after and with Mezei. I basically played our top four a lot more.

On Belfour playing better as of late...

I think when you look at his performance after Atlanta, he worked hard the whole week. I thought he gave us a chance in Tampa last Saturday. I thought maybe the last goal wasn't a goal he liked on the wrap-around. But in the second period he really made a lot of saves and kept us in the hockey game. We just didn't respond. I thought that was a step in the right direction.
