SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers welcomed more than 750 fans to the first ‘Cats Cookout’ of the summer. Panther fans were treated to free hot dogs and hamburgers, and the night was highlighted by appearances from Panthers Captain Olli Jokinen and future Hall of Famer Joe Nieuwendyk.
At the Cookout held on the Carl’s Patio at the BankAtlantic Center, Jokinen presented a check for $21,000 to the American Cancer Society’s R.O.C.K Program. In addition, Luggage Express, CEO Richard A. Altomare, who teamed up with Jokinen during the 2006-07 season, also donated $21,000 to the JAFCO Children’s Foundation.
“Our fans’ response to the first cookout was tremendous,” Sr. VP of Sales & Marketing Chad Johnson said. “It was a great night where we were able to donate significant money to South Florida charities, while our fans also had the opportunity to meet with both Olli and Joe. Tonight’s event was just the beginning of what promises to be an active summer for our team in the South Florida community.”
Panthers fans in attendance were also treated to the announcement that Nieuwendyk was named the team’s new Special Consultant to the GM. Also at the Cookout, the Panthers held their used equipment sale were fans could buy equipment used by the players for a discounted price.
The Panthers next Cats Cookout is scheduled for Thursday, May 17 from 6-8pm at the BankAtlantic Center.
