5. Last year Florida swept the season series with the Islanders for the first time since the Cats Inaugural season, 1993-94. Two of last season's wins were shutouts including a 53-save shutout performance by G Craig Anderson.

4. The Islanders and Panthers met 12 days ago in the final preseason game this fall with the Panthers coming away with a 6-0 victory and G Tomas Vokoun recording the shutout.

3. Panthers starting G Tomas Vokoun has started nine games against the Islanders and is a stellar 7-2-0 with a 1.87 GAA and two shutouts.

2. Panthers D Karlis Skrastins played in his first game of the season Thursday evening after sitting out the first two games with a back injury. Thursday night Skrastins posted a goal, a plus-1 rating and three blocked shots.

1. Saturday is a battle of rookie head coaches. The Panthers Peter DeBoer earned his first NHL win last Saturday in a 3-2 OT win over Atlanta. The Islanders Scott Gordon earned his first NHL win last Saturday in a 5-2 win over St. Louis.

The Florida Panthers will show their support for the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign by hosting their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Saturday, October 18 as the Panthers take on the New York Islanders. To commemorate the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, all hockey operations personnel, broadcasters and Florida Panthers executives will don commemorative Hockey Fights Cancer neckties.
