The popular first-round draft pick (4th overall) in 2001, is in his seventh NHL season, all with the Cats. The Toronto, Ontario native had his second straight 40 point season, finishing with 13 goals and 29 assists in 74 games. He also set a career high in game-winning goals with four.
We have a huge two-game road trip with three games left in the season. We have to keep doing what we’ve been doing lately and play hard for sixty minutes. It all starts with tonight’s game against Philadelphia. We’ve got to have a good start, obviously. With a travel day and playing in their building, they’ll probably come out ready to go. We expect their best. If we have a good first five-ten minutes of the game, we should be alright.
It’s fun to be in this spot; battling with teams for playoff spots. This is why you play all the games of the regular season. Hopefully we can keep winning and keep putting pressure on Montreal and the Rangers.
Boother scoring that goal with 11 seconds left Sunday in the second was great. It gave us a little extra cushion (3-1) to play with in the third. We got a lot of momentum going into the third after that goal and it was enough to carry us through.
Anytime you can score towards the end of the period, you take that momentum into the next period. It’s a big boost for the team that scores the goal and a big blow to the other team. We’ve been having that happen to us the whole season and over the last week or so we’ve gotten to turn the tide and do it to other teams. We scored twice in the final minute of the second period against Dallas and late in the first and second against Pittsburgh. It’s really huge, especially this late in the season.
Coach doesn’t say much in between periods, especially when you score a late goal, but as far as the guys in the room are concerned, we’re pretty pumped. It’s always nice to get a late goal and carry that momentum into the next period.
Pittsburgh had a chance to clinch a playoff spot Sunday and we knew they were going to come out hard and they did. We expect the same from Philly. This close to playoff time, all the teams are trying to have their best games to prepare. It’s no different for us. We just have to do what we’ve been doing and keep working and see where we’re at.
Talk to you soon.
