Panthers Ink D Noah Welch To Two-Year Deal
D Bret Nasby Assigned to Rochester (AHL); 3 Players Reassigned to Junior Teams

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager and head coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has agreed on a two-year contract with D Noah Welch. In addition, D Bret Nasby has been assigned to Rochester (AHL) while Brady Calla, Michael Caruso and Corey Syvret were reassigned to their Junior team, Guelph (OHL).

Welch, 25, was acquired by Florida on Feb. 27, 2007 from Pittsburgh in exchange for LW Gary Roberts. After being acquired by Florida, the Brighton, MA native scored a goal in his first game for the Panthers on April 6 at Tampa Bay. In two games with Florida, Welch had a rating of plus-three. He played in 11 games for Rochester (AHL) scoring two goals and four assists with 21 PIM.

“We are pleased to have Noah under contract for the next two seasons,” Martin said. “He is a high character and hard working individual who further adds more depth to our defensive core.”

In 22 games played for Pittsburgh, Welch scored one goal and one assist with 22 PIM. He played in 27 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL), scoring five goals and 16 assists.

Welch played four seasons with Harvard University from 2001-05, serving as the team Captain during his senior season. He was named first team All-American by ACHA and named first team All-ECAC following his senior season.
