Bomber\'s Blog: Forming An Identity
Former Panthers forward and current radio analyst Bill Lindsay will be blogging on floridapanthers.com on anything that crosses his mind.

Lindsay who spent seven seasons (1993-2002) with the Cats and played in 506 games and collected 165 points is now a radio analyst on 790 The Ticket.

Lindsay will always be remembered in Cats history for his series-clinching goal in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Boston Bruins in the '96 playoffs.

The weather on this recent road trip for the Panthers has been about as cold as Canada has to offer, but it has not been enough to cool off the hot Cats. The temperatures might keep falling (as low as -30 degreees) but the Panthers are continuing to rise in the NHL standings. Last night Florida set a franchise record with its fifth straight road win, as they beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 in the shootout. It has been an incredible turn around for a team that only a month ago was last in the league, and seemed destined to stay there as they were ravaged by injuries to key players.

Good hockey teams have an identity. New Jersey has always been known as a top defensive club, Detroit a puck control team with incredible talent, Edmonton a team built on speed, Anaheim physical and mean. The Panthers are starting to gain an identity as an extremely hard working team with great goaltending. Sound familiar? The Panthers are getting back what they once had.

There is a long way to go but it is hard not to love what you have seen lately from the Cats. It definately seems that they are headed in the right direction. Peter Deboer has said the injuries have been a blessing for this team as it has forced them to come together. This seems to have been the case as they have rallied around each other to turn a negative into a positive. It's amazing to watch this team win when on paper it looks like they are no match for their opponent. How can a team be expected to win when their leading scorer is a defenseman, and he has six less points than any other leading scorer on a team.

I love that this franchise record road winning streak has come while the Panthers are making their western Canadian swing. There is no better way to put  Florida hockey back on the radar screen  than by wooping up on storied Canadian franchises that rarely get a chance to play the Panthers. People are starting to take notice as the Cats are back on the prowl.

Hope is a wonderful thing. Hope is to desire something and think it will happen. This team has given Panther fans reason to be hopeful for a return to the playoffs. Florida is hot right now, and I am not talking about the weather.
