Florida Panthers Foundation Partners with the Salvation Army To Ring Kettles on March 24
Salvation Army of Broward County to raise funds for summer programs

SUNRISE, FL – The Florida Panthers Foundation announced today that it has partnered with the Salvation Army to ring kettles on Saturday, March 24 before the Florida Panthers take on the visiting New Jersey Devils at the BankAtlantic Center. The red kettles, synonymous with the holiday season, will be on the BankAtlantic Center’s Spirit Airlines Funway to raise much needed funds for the Salvation Army’s summer programs.

“We are honored to partner with such a well respected organization and help them raise money for their summer programs,” said Florida Panthers Foundation Executive Director Alaina Miller. “As a member of the South Florida community, it is important for the Florida Panthers Foundation to support those in need. We encourage our fans to come out and support this initiative before taking in an exciting Panthers home game.”

All funds raised from the kettles will be earmarked to support programs for the “very low income” and “homeless” children that the Salvation Army serves here in Broward County. The annual cost of running the after school program and the summer program totals more than $200,000. All Salvation Army programs are designed in conjunction with the Broward County School Board to ensure that all children are getting the best educational programs possible. In addition to academics, all children participate in life skills lessons, reading and art programs. Children who participate in these programs show noticeable improvement in their academic skills.

Local celebrities that will be taking part in the program include:

•    Joe Nieuwendyk, former Florida Panthers center
•    Elias Soriano, lead singer for the hard rock band Nonpoint
•    DJ’s J & Dave Hanson from the J & Dave in the Morning on 93 Rock
•    DJ’s Erin Lee & Gaston De La Vega of 93 Rock

Over the past year the Florida Panthers Foundation has donated Florida Panthers game tickets and auction items including team-signed jerseys and sticks and Zamboni rides to various South Florida charities. Recipients include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Broward County, American Cancer Society, JAFCO, Homestead Air Reserve, Soref JCC, Boys & Girls Club, Miami Disadvantaged Youth, Dept. of Naval Science, American Jewish Community, City of Plantation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, H.O.P.E., Camelot Community Center, Stellar Kids, the Andy Roddick Foundation and Rock and Wrap It Up!.
