The Florida Panthers Summer Hockey Schools, presented by Panera Bread and Powerade, continue July 16-20 with the Rob Tallas Goalie School at IncredibleICE in Coral Springs.

The hockey camps, which run through July 27 and feature Panther players, coaches and staff, got off to an exciting start last week with the Fundamental Hockey School run by Panther defenseman Mike Van Ryn. Designed for beginner to intermediate players, more than 50 kids participated in the five-day camp.

“I went to hockey schools when I was a kid and the camps we’re running are definitely the kind I would have liked to have attended when I was growing up,” Van Ryn said.

“Our staff of instructors offer an incredible amount of hockey knowledge and NHL experience,” said Randy Moller, VP of Community Development, Youth Hockey and Broadcasting. “Our campers will receive the highest level of instruction and evaluation to further develop their hockey careers.

The Rob Tallas Goalie School runs Monday through Friday and is designed for goalies 7-17 years old. Tallas, who spent 16 seasons in professional hockey including four years with the Boston Bruins, is looking for goalies who desire to learn more about stance and recovery, net awareness, rebounds and angles, blocker techniques and all game situations.

“The position has changed over the years,” said Tallas, who resides in Coral Springs and will be joined at the camp by seven other goalie instructors. “Maybe years ago it didn’t require someone to be so athletic. But you have to be an athlete to play the position these days and it’s probably the most technical position on ice.”

Tallas will put his campers through a hard skate the first day and then work on technique while trying to get every young goalie to develop his own personality in the net.

After Tallas wraps up his goalie school, the 2nd Annual NHL Development Camp will take place at IncredibleICE from July 23-27 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) for players 13-18 years old. This exclusive camp is limited to 60 players, and is geared toward the advanced hockey player, focusing on intense drills and team scenarios. Panther assistant coach Pierre Groulx will lead an all-star staff of Panthers players, coaches and NHL alumni.

All schools include three hours of on-ice and three hours of off-ice training each day. The Registration fees are $525 for the Rob Tallas Goalie School and $495 for the NHL Development Camp. Participants at each school will receive a Florida Panthers hockey school jersey, while early registrations will receive a $50 discount to the Fundamental School or a $25 discount toward the Rob Tallas Goalie School.
