Panthers Defenseman Cory Murphy Creates Breast Cancer Goal Program
Program Joins “Saving Lives One Puck At A Time” Campaign to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

SUNRISE, FL – The Florida Panthers Foundation today announced that defenseman Cory Murphy has pledged $100 to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation for every goal the Florida Panthers score in the month of October. Murphy’s mother is a breast cancer survivor.

Additionally beginning in November, Murphy will donate $250 for every goal and $100 for every assist that he records for the remainder of the Florida Panthers season. All funds will then be donated to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.

“As a professional athlete, I feel that it is important to give back and anything that I can do to raise awareness for breast cancer is a positive step for me and my family,” Murphy said. “As our team performs on the ice, I can make an impact off of it to fight breast cancer and that is something that is very important to me.”

To further raise awareness for breast cancer research, the Florida Panthers Foundation has partnered with FSN Florida and National City to create the “Saving Lives One Puck At A Time” campaign. Fans can pledge any dollar amount per save made by Panthers goaltenders in the month of October, after the conclusion of the Panthers game versus the Carolina Hurricanes on October 31, the total number of saves made during the month will be announced. At that point, each fan who signs up to participate in this program will be notified of their total donation. Fans will also receive a special gift at the conclusion of the month based on their total contribution. Fans can register their pledge on the Florida Panthers website as well as at Florida Panthers home games during the month of October.

“I am proud that Cory Murphy has joined the fight against breast cancer and it is a natural addition to our ‘Saving Lives One Puck at a Time’ campaign in conjunction with FSN Florida and National City,” said Executive Director Alaina Miller. “We are excited to offer fans this unique opportunity to tie their donation into the success of the Florida Panthers goaltenders. The Florida Panthers Foundation, FSN Florida and National City are confident that we can make a significant impact through this campaign and we urge our fans to register their pledges for this worthy cause.”

South Florida is now experiencing a multi-faceted media campaign to introduce the program to the South Florida community, including:

Television commercials on FSN Florida and Sun Sports
Billboards throughout the South Florida area
Radio advertisements on 790 the Ticket
In-arena activation

Over the past year the Florida Panthers Foundation has donated Florida Panthers game tickets and auction items including team-signed jerseys and sticks and Zamboni rides to various South Florida charities. Recipients include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Broward County, American Cancer Society, JAFCO, Homestead Air Reserve, Soref JCC, Boys & Girls Club, Miami Disadvantaged Youth, Dept. of Naval Science, American Jewish Community, City of Plantation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, H.O.P.E., Camelot Community Center, Stellar Kids, the Andy Roddick Foundation and Rock and Wrap It Up!.
