Panthers By The Numbers takes a closer look at some of the
interesting stats that you may or may have not known about

Flyers 3, Panthers 2 (SO)

– The Panthers streak of scoring the first goal of the game came to an end Friday night when Jeff Carter rebounded Braydon Coburn’s point shot into the back of the net for his league-leading 30th goal of the season. The last time the Panthers did not score the first goal of the game came eight games ago as Steven Stamkos scored in the first period on December 27th for Tampa Bay.

10 – Florida outshot Philadelphia 13-3 in the second period. Taking four penalties in the period didn’t help the Flyers either. The Panthers outshot the Flyers 34-26 in the game. It was the 12th time this season that the Panthers have outshot their opponents (7-3-2 in those games).

4 – It only took four attempts for the Panthers to score with the man advantage, but Bryan McCabe’s 9th of the season with 5:13 left in the second period got the Panthers on the board. Florida also scored on their very next power play attempt when Jay Bouwmeester rifled the shot past Antero Niittymaki 2:49 later.

7 (part II) – It was the seventh time this season that the Panthers have scored two power play goals in a game (4-2-1). The last time they accomplished that feat was January 3rd in a 6-1 victory over the Penguins.

29 – The Panthers now have 29 goals from their defense as McCabe scored his eight of the season and Bouwmeester netted his ninth. The two tallies now put Florida in first in the race for most goals by a defensive squad, one more than Nashville.

3 – Bouwmeester increased his goal-scoring streak to three games when he beat Niittymaki with 2:24 left in the middle period. The Cats defenseman also has a five game point streak (3-2) and is tied for fifth in the league in goals by a defenseman (Zdeno Chara).

14 – The Flyers held a huge advantage in the hit count as they outhit the Panthers 29-15 in the contest. Five different Flyers collected three hits a piece. Florida also had five different skaters tie for the team lead, but with two each.

5 – McCabe’s blast from the point in the second gave him five power play goals on the season, tying him for the team lead with forward David Booth. McCabe leads the Panthers in total power play scoring with 12 points. is the official Web site of the Florida Panthers. Florida Panthers and are trademarks of the Florida Panthers Hockey Club, Ltd.
