Booth Taken To Hospital
By Dave Joseph for floridapanthers.com
The Panthers not only lost Saturday’s game in Philadelphia, but they lost last season's leading goal scorer.
David Booth was taken off the ice on a stretcher with 2:55 remaining in the second period after Mike Richards hit him crossing the Flyers blue line. Richards hit Booth squarely with his left shoulder. Booth spun to the ice, his head hitting the ice, and he lay motionless for several minutes before being taken to a local area hospital.
Panthers GM Randy Sexton, who told Fox Sports it was “clearly a late hit,” said after the game Booth would remain overnight in Philadelphia for observation. He said Booth was awake, moving his extremities, and was coherent.
“I had a quick chat with the doctor,” he said. “They’ll be doing a whole host of tests to be sure everything is OK. It’s too early to tell the extent of the injury until they do all the tests….They did some very quick motors tests and everything seemed fine in that respect.”
Booth, who led the Panthers with 31 goals last season, scored his second goal of the season at 14:59 of the first period to tie the game. The game got away from the Panthers in the second period, however, while being out-shot 15-2.
The Panthers were physically beaten-up throughout the night by the Flyers. Radek Dvorak was helped off the ice early in the second period with a lower body injury after what appeared a knee-on-knee hit with Darroll Powe, and Dan Carcillo took a run at Panthers rookie Dmitry Kulikov in the third period. Kulikov was not hurt.
