MY360: Not Just Any Gameday
Before I get into the meat of this blog I want to first congratulate an original Florida Panther, Radek Dvorak, who is about to become the 249th player in National Hockey League history to play in his 1,000th career game.

Radek will do so tonight, against one of his former teams the Edmonton Oilers, and I must say I’m excited to be here at the BankAtlantic Center when he is honored. Clearly one of the most popular Panthers of all time due to his exciting, gritty style of play as well as his work-ethic and leadership off the ice, it will be a special night for Radek, his teammates, and the entire Panthers organization at the “Center of it All”.

Tonight is also the last opportunity for our fans to cheer on the Cats before they depart on a four-game road trip to Columbus, New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Long Island. The Panthers remain in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race so every game is crucial, starting this evening against the Oilers.

That said, on the business side, we are still reflecting on last week’s Town Hall Meeting with fans, in which myself and Co-Managing Partners Cliff Viner and Stu Siegel spent about an hour hearing the unfiltered thoughts, concerns and emotions of our fans.

From power plays to season ticket holder show rates, to trades and average attendance, we touched on nearly every facet of this hockey franchise. Following that meeting, I went back to my staff and challenged them to focus on the comments and suggestions that some of our most loyal fans made, and I can assure you, it is something we will continue to focus on.

In addition to taking questions and hearing from our fans at the Town Hall, we also unveiled some new initiatives including a new SSE corporate tagline – Accountability. Accessibility. Winning Culture. – as well as Our Pledge and Contract With The Community.

As I have mentioned previously, the announcement of Cliff and Stu as Co-Managing Partners has really galvanized our organization, and I believe that the new tagline, Pledge and Contract represent our core philosophies and principles moving forward.

Last week also represented another incredible week for the BankAtlantic Center, which continues to underscore its reputation as one of the top venues in the world. In addition to two exciting shootouts against Colorado and Atlanta, we also hosted an incredible performance by Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Friday evening.

As we look ahead over the next two weeks, we’ve got three exciting Panthers home games, Y100 Jingle Ball featuring Shakira on Saturday, Dec. 12 and the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic featuring the Gators and Hurricanes on Saturday, Dec. 19.

It’s just another holiday season full of events at the BankAtlantic Center.

ABOUT MICHAEL YORMARK
SSE President & CEO

Since joining Sunrise Sports & Entertainment in September of 2003, Michael R. Yormark has guided the organization into a new era of growth and success.  For his efforts, devotion and dedication to SSE and the Florida Panthers, he was promoted to the position of President on Aug. 13, 2007.

Yormark and his staff have worked diligently to build and re-brand Florida Panthers L.L.L.P. into Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, a first-class sports and entertainment company, and to ensure that the BankAtlantic Center lives up to its reputation as the “Center of it All” in South Florida. SSE serves as an umbrella for a diverse portfolio of operating entities that includes the BankAtlantic Center, the Florida Panthers, incredible ICE, Sawgrass Live presented by BankAtlantic and the Oz real estate development project.

Yormark has built SSE into a comprehensive company with its values rooted in innovative marketing and public relations strategies, first-rate customer and client services, aggressive sales and diverse revenue pursuits. For that reason, Yormark and his staff were able to grow sponsorship sales significantly in a touch economy, maintain an average attendance of over 15,500 for Panthers games, renew over 90-percent of season ticket holders on an annual basis, and sell out all premium suite inventory (suites and clubs) for five straight years running.

In addition, Yormark has overseen dramatic improvements to the BankAtlantic Center in the last few years including two Las Vegas-style outdoor marqees’ and two huge Lobby Vision LED boards inside the arena’s lobby. He has also spearheaded an innovative sponsorship activation strategy that included the creation of his Brand Activation Team and led to the development of the Publix Kids Korner, IT’s Sugar Sweet Spot and various other branded destinations that are the first of their kind in the professional sports industry.

Yormark has been consistently recognized for his and the
company’s considerable success through national awards and exposure such as the SportsBusiness Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award, the Stanley Cup of Business, the City of Sunrise Business Leader Award, the South Florida Businss Journal’s Business of the Year Award Nomination, profiles in Newsweek magazine, Sports Illustrated and on CNBC, a top 12 worldwide ranking for the BankAtlantic Center in Pollstar Magazine, an Arena of the Year Nomination from Pollstar and more.

Yormark has also dedicated considerable time to the South Florida community including acting as President of the Sunrise Foundation, sitting on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and being a member of the Young President’s Organization.

That said, Yormark continues to expand the business and build the SSE brand through projects such as the expansion of incredible ICE and the development of the area surrounding the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise through Oz.
