MY360: Brotherly Love
Your Florida Panthers are in Philadelphia tonight, getting ready to face the Flyers for the first time since David Booth’s injury in late October. Couple that with the bitter memory of a 5-1 loss, and I’m sure our Cats – winners of four of their last six – will bring an all out effort tonight in the City of Brotherly Love.

Panthers fans have to be impressed with the team’s recent play. Florida is 4-1-1 in its last six games to vault back into eighth place in the Eastern Conference, and just three points out of fifth. The Panthers continue to get stellar performances from their best players, including leading scorers Nathan Horton (11-24-35) and Stephen Weiss (17-16-33), second year forward Michael Frolik (10-10-20), All-Star goalie Tomas Vokoun (.923 save percentage) and defensemen Bryan McCabe (5-14-19) and Dennis Seidenberg (averaging over 22 minutes of ice time).

That said, the upcoming stretch of games is crucial, with a visit to Madison Square Garden to play the Rangers on Wednesday, before taking on the Bruins at home during a Family Fun Sunday at the BankAtlantic Center. Hopefully our Panthers can continue their strong play through the New Year, and put themselves in position for a strong second half run.

As many in the media have surmised, with 10 teams within eight points of each other in the Eastern Conference, the playoff race is going to be wide open.

Meanwhile, with the Panthers on the road, the BankAtlantic Center stayed busy with the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic on Saturday. For fans that were there, they saw a stellar performance from Miami, who ran past FAU, 87-69, and an upset win by Richmond, 56-53 over the Florida Gators.

Also over the weekend, tickets went on sale for the Eric Clapton concert on March 11. Good seats are still available, but they are going fast. In addition, tickets are still available for the Panthers-Bruins game on Sunday, as well as a visit from the Montreal Canadiens on New Year’s Eve. Both are 5 p.m. starts and fans can call 954.835.PUCK for tickets or more info.

The Center of it All will continue to be busy, even during the holidays, with two hockey games and four performances of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular between now and New Year’s Day.

The Holiday spirit is in full effect in South Florida, and even the weather is cooperating. Although I have to admit, while the temperature is in the 50s today in Broward County, I am content to spend the next few days on the tropical island of St. John with my family, as well as Executive Vice President Pedro Goncalves and his family.

But that won’t stop me from finding a place to watch tonight’s Panthers-Flyers game, as our Cats hope to continue their recent climb up the standings. Until next time, have a wonderful week, a happy holiday, and go Panthers.

ABOUT MICHAEL YORMARK
SSE President & CEO

Since joining Sunrise Sports & Entertainment in September of 2003, Michael R. Yormark has guided the organization into a new era of growth and success.  For his efforts, devotion and dedication to SSE and the Florida Panthers, he was promoted to the position of President on Aug. 13, 2007.

Yormark and his staff have worked diligently to build and re-brand Florida Panthers L.L.L.P. into Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, a first-class sports and entertainment company, and to ensure that the BankAtlantic Center lives up to its reputation as the “Center of it All” in South Florida. SSE serves as an umbrella for a diverse portfolio of operating entities that includes the BankAtlantic Center, the Florida Panthers, incredible ICE, Sawgrass Live presented by BankAtlantic and the Oz real estate development project.

Yormark has built SSE into a comprehensive company with its values rooted in innovative marketing and public relations strategies, first-rate customer and client services, aggressive sales and diverse revenue pursuits. For that reason, Yormark and his staff were able to grow sponsorship sales significantly in a touch economy, maintain an average attendance of over 15,500 for Panthers games, renew over 90-percent of season ticket holders on an annual basis, and sell out all premium suite inventory (suites and clubs) for five straight years running.

In addition, Yormark has overseen dramatic improvements to the BankAtlantic Center in the last few years including two Las Vegas-style outdoor marqees’ and two huge Lobby Vision LED boards inside the arena’s lobby. He has also spearheaded an innovative sponsorship activation strategy that included the creation of his Brand Activation Team and led to the development of the Publix Kids Korner, IT’s Sugar Sweet Spot and various other branded destinations that are the first of their kind in the professional sports industry.

Yormark has been consistently recognized for his and the
company’s considerable success through national awards and exposure such as the SportsBusiness Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award, the Stanley Cup of Business, the City of Sunrise Business Leader Award, the South Florida Businss Journal’s Business of the Year Award Nomination, profiles in Newsweek magazine, Sports Illustrated and on CNBC, a top 12 worldwide ranking for the BankAtlantic Center in Pollstar Magazine, an Arena of the Year Nomination from Pollstar and more.

Yormark has also dedicated considerable time to the South Florida community including acting as President of the Sunrise Foundation, sitting on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and being a member of the Young President’s Organization.

That said, Yormark continues to expand the business and build the SSE brand through projects such as the expansion of incredible ICE and the development of the area surrounding the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise through Oz.
