MY360: Project In Progress
Last night, before the start of the Florida Panthers-Washington Capitals game at the BankAtlantic Center, myself along with SSE Managing Partners Cliff Viner and Stu Siegel, and Sunrise Mayor Roger Wishner, welcomed over 200 local Sunrise business leaders to the Chairman’s Club for our inaugural Project Unite event.

Project Unite is an aggressive new initiative for SSE, and it is designed to bring together our organization with local South Florida communities to work toward one common goal.

As Cliff Viner mentioned in his remarks, our Contract With The Community promises that we will be a good corporate citizen and business partner to all of our local supporters. Last night was a wonderful opportunity to talk about how we are, and will continue, to live up to that contract with our aggressive community outreach and charitable initiatives.

It was also an opportunity for us to reach out to our neighbors and local businesses to educate them on our organization and the many avenues with which we can help them meet their business goals and objectives.

The response, to put it simply, was tremendous. In addition to the couple hundred people in attendance, we had a number of special guests show their support for this new initiative including Mayor Wishner, Deputy Mayor Donald Rosen, Commissioner Lawrence Sofield, Police Chief John Brooks, Fire Chief Norm Rynning and others.

Mayor Wishner even made it a point to mention, during his speech, how important it is that the City of Sunrise and it’s business leaders continue to support the Panthers and the BankAtlantic Center, due to our ability to “put Sunrise on the map.”

The Mayor’s words and support are much appreciated, and are one of the reasons we will have a series of Project Unite events over the next few months with other local communities including Coral Springs, Weston, Boca Raton and more.

Following our brief agenda, cocktails and a wonderful buffet dinner and dessert, our guests also got to enjoy an exciting Panthers hockey game against the visiting Washington Capitals. The Caps, galvanized by electric forward Alex Ovechkin, took the win in the shootout, but as I told our staff after the game, nobody left the BankAtlantic Center saying they didn’t get enough entertainment value for their dollar.

Your Panthers are in action again tonight in another crucial divisional game at the Tampa Bay Lightning, before they return home for two games against Tampa and Atlanta, and then off on the road for games with the Devils and Islanders in the New York Metro area.

On the entertainment side, the BankAtlantic Center once again found itself near the top of Pollstar’s recent arena venue rankings, coming in at the National No. 12 spot in the year-end edition.

It truly is a testament to our aggressive programming philosophy and innovative marketing and promotional strategies, that the ‘Center of it All’ is consistently recognized among the world’s elite venues. And with huge shows on the horizon such as Dane Cook, Jimmy Buffett, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and others, it looks like the BankAtlantic Center will have a chance to climb even higher.

Thanks for reading, enjoy watching tonight’s game and go Panthers.

ABOUT MICHAEL YORMARK
SSE President & CEO

Since joining Sunrise Sports & Entertainment in September of 2003, Michael R. Yormark has guided the organization into a new era of growth and success.  For his efforts, devotion and dedication to SSE and the Florida Panthers, he was promoted to the position of President on Aug. 13, 2007.

Yormark and his staff have worked diligently to build and re-brand Florida Panthers L.L.L.P. into Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, a first-class sports and entertainment company, and to ensure that the BankAtlantic Center lives up to its reputation as the “Center of it All” in South Florida. SSE serves as an umbrella for a diverse portfolio of operating entities that includes the BankAtlantic Center, the Florida Panthers, incredible ICE, Sawgrass Live presented by BankAtlantic and the Oz real estate development project.

Yormark has built SSE into a comprehensive company with its values rooted in innovative marketing and public relations strategies, first-rate customer and client services, aggressive sales and diverse revenue pursuits. For that reason, Yormark and his staff were able to grow sponsorship sales significantly in a touch economy, maintain an average attendance of over 15,500 for Panthers games, renew over 90-percent of season ticket holders on an annual basis, and sell out all premium suite inventory (suites and clubs) for five straight years running.

In addition, Yormark has overseen dramatic improvements to the BankAtlantic Center in the last few years including two Las Vegas-style outdoor marqees’ and two huge Lobby Vision LED boards inside the arena’s lobby. He has also spearheaded an innovative sponsorship activation strategy that included the creation of his Brand Activation Team and led to the development of the Publix Kids Korner, IT’s Sugar Sweet Spot and various other branded destinations that are the first of their kind in the professional sports industry.

Yormark has been consistently recognized for his and the
company’s considerable success through national awards and exposure such as the SportsBusiness Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award, the Stanley Cup of Business, the City of Sunrise Business Leader Award, the South Florida Businss Journal’s Business of the Year Award Nomination, profiles in Newsweek magazine, Sports Illustrated and on CNBC, a top 12 worldwide ranking for the BankAtlantic Center in Pollstar Magazine, an Arena of the Year Nomination from Pollstar and more.

Yormark has also dedicated considerable time to the South Florida community including acting as President of the Sunrise Foundation, sitting on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and being a member of the Young President’s Organization.

That said, Yormark continues to expand the business and build the SSE brand through projects such as the expansion of incredible ICE and the development of the area surrounding the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise through Oz.
