MARK PYSYK
#7 North American Skater
Medicine Hat, WHL

Position: Defenseman Shoots: Right
Height: 6'1 Weight: 174
Born: 1/11/92 Born In: Sherwood Park, AB

THE SHINNY:
Mark Pysyk played in only 48 games this season for the Edmonton Oil Kings. And despite the limited playing time, Pysyk garnered some of the top team awards after collecting 24 points (seven goals), being named the Oil Kings Most Valuable Player, the Top Defenseman and the Scholastic Playef of the Year.

Pysyk was the first-ever Bantam draft pick for the Oil Kings in 2007 and averaged over 20 minutes a game as a 16-year old.

Director of Central Scouting E.J. McGuire: “He finished the season with a broken foot and a lot of scouts weren't able to get a good grip on how good this player's going to be in the NHL. Smooth-skating, he has a neat knack for following up the play at the right time, leading the rush at the right time and throwing a crisp pass to one of his forwards to break out of his zone.”

Pysyk On Pysyk: "Strong in my own end, keeping the puck away from our net, making a good first pass, and then if the opportunity presents itself, then jumping up in the play and maybe getting in on the offense, as well."

NEWS:
Bleacher Report: Top Prospect Mark Pysyk
(5.12.10) When the Edmonton Oil Kings decided to make Mark Pysyk their first ever Bantam Draft pick in 2007 (third overall), fans assumed the franchise knew what they were doing.

Well, they clearly did.

Pysyk, who is ranked as the seventh overall prospect by NHL Central Scouting, was exactly the dominating defenseman the Oil Kings were looking for. In his rookie season in the WHL, Pysyk put up 20 points in 61 games, but increased his per game production this year, scoring 24 points in just 48 games, while missing some time due to a concussion.

Gudbranson Moves Up To Top-Rated Defenseman
(4.07.10) Two years ago, NHL teams had to decide between high-skill defensemen Zach Bogosian Drew Doughty, Tyler Myers, Luke Schenn and Alex Pietrangelo at the top of the draft board. They could face a similar conundrum at this year's draft.

Erik Gudbranson, Cam Fowler, Brandon Gormley, Mark Pysyk and Derek Forbort all have NHL-caliber skills, and all five are certain to hear their names called early in the first round of the 2010 Entry Draft, June 25-26 in Los  Angeles.
