STATS:
NEWS: Rangers May Go For Tarasenko At No. 10 (5.03.10) Gordie Clark obviously wasn't going to let the world know who the New York Rangers wanted to take with the 10th pick in the 2010 Entry Draft during a conference call Wednesday, but he certainly perked up when Russian right wing Vladimir Tarasenko became the topic of conversation. The Rangers' director of player personnel has shown during his eight seasons with the team that he's not afraid to use an early pick on a Russian prospect, despite the looming threat of his selection deciding to play in the KHL. Clark has overseen the Rangers' drafts since 2005-06 and was instrumental in the team taking center Artem Anisimov in the second round in 2006, right wing Alexei Cherepanov in the first round in 2007 and left wing Evgeny Grachev in the third round in 2008. Hockey's Future Prospect Profile: Vladimir Tarasenko (1.11.10) Vladimir Tarasenko, a skilled and highly touted Russian right winger, is playing his second season in the KHL. Last year he was second in voting for Rookie of the Year in the KHL right after goalie Ilya Proskuryakov and this year he's third in scoring on his team Sibir Novosibirsk. He's among top draft prospects eligible for 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Tarasenko was just ranked second among European skaters in NHL Central Scouting's mid-term rankings. Tarasenko is a very good goal scorer with quick hands and lethal shot. He sees the ice well and owns playmaking skills too. He likes to play hard and is strong on his skates. |
