MY360: Huge Week In L.A.
The biggest city on the West Coast will host one of the biggest weeks in recent Florida Panthers history this week. Los Angeles is the setting, and while I am here meeting with entertainment promoters and working to book some more big shows for the BankAtlantic Center, Panthers general manager Dale Tallon is primed to make a huge impact on the direction of this franchise.

The change in direction, and dynamic as Dale says, began yesterday in the trade that brought defenseman Dennis Wideman to South Florida along with the No. 15 overall pick in 2010 and a third rounder in 2011, and sent forwards Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell to Boston.

Cats fans have to be excited about the fact that, since Dale’s debut press conference, he has done everything he said he was going to do. He said that no player was untouchable, and proved it with yesterday’s trade. He said he wanted to build through the draft, and he’s already secured additional picks in the first round in 2010 and the third round in 2011. He said he wanted players with speed, skill, size and lots of character, and that’s all we hear about Wideman.

It’s certainly exciting for me to watch a professional and successful person like Dale guide our organization through the process of turning this team around.

That said, we continue to focus on all areas of our business, including our entertainment offerings as we build on the BankAtlantic Center’s reputation as one of the premier venues of its kind in the world.

Earlier this month we announced a number of huge shows including Aerosmith and Lady Gaga, and our new Vice President of Event Programming Matt Bell has pledged that there are more big events on the horizon, as we look to improve on our recent Pollstar ranking of No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 15 in the world.

We are also extremely excited about our recent radio partnership announcement, as the Panthers will return to their original radio home on WQAM. We made the announcement live on the Sid Rosenberg show less than two weeks ago, and we are absolutely thrilled that dedicated and knowledgeable hockey fans like Sid, Joe Rose, the Big O and others, are back on our side.

On that note, the Panthers Draft Show on WQAM will be broadcast live from Duffy’s Sports Grill in Ft. Lauderdale on Friday night, with radio play-by-play man Randy Moller joining Kevin Rogers on the broadcast.

I would encourage all of our local Panthers fans to join their fellow devotees at one of our two Draft parties on Friday night at Duffy’s locations in Ft. Lauderdale or Palm Beach Gardens. Fox Sports Florida color commentator and former Panther Billy Lindsay will host the festivities up north, as we do our best to serve all of our tri-county Cats fans with two Draft party locations.

With two first round picks and the possibility for more fireworks, I would encourage all of our fans to make their way to the most convenient Draft party location and take advantage of all the festivities, including drink and food specials and prizes, while watching GM Dale Tallon continue to turn this franchise around.

Thanks for reading and go Panthers.

That said, Yormark continues to expand the business and build the SSE brand through projects such as the expansion of incredible ICE and the development of the area surrounding the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise through Oz.

Before joining SSE, Yormark spent four seasons with Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Tampa Bay Lightning, most recently as Executive Vice President, where he was a Tampa Bay Business Journal Forty Under 40 Award Winner and brokered the naming rights partnership that saw the Ice Palace become the St. Pete Times Forum.
