Three Panthers prospects are one step closer to realizing one of their dreams and playing in the 2011 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY at the end of December.
Team Canada announced their camp roster today and 2010 first round picks defenseman Erik Gudbranson (3rd overall) and Quinton Howden (25th overall) have made the list as well as 2009 fourth-round pick Garrett Wilson (107th overall).
The preliminary roster has 23 forwards, 12 defensemen and four goaltenders vying for one of the 22 spots on the team.
Gudbranson (D, 6-4, 211 lbs), Florida’s first pick in this past year's draft, almost made the Panthers out of training camp but has performed well after returning to play for the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs. The 18-year old has 11 points (three goals) in 21 games while also racking up 55 penalty minutes as an assistant captain. The 55 PIM are tied for 13th most in the league.
Howden (C, 6-3, 192 lbs), the Panthers third first-round pick in the 2010 NHL draft, acquired from Vancouver in the Keith Ballard trade, has racked up 15 goals and 15 assists for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. The 18-year old leads Moose Jaw in goals and scoring while his goal total is tied for 13th in the league.
Wilson (LW, 6-2, 205 lbs) is having a fantastic start to his 2010-11 season as captain of the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL. The 19-year old is tied for second in the league in goals with 22 and tied for second in points with 41. His 19 assists are tied for 16th and he tops the league in power play goals with 11.
Canada's selection camp will take place from December 12-15 at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto where all 39 prospects will have one last chance to impress the coaching staff as they try to make the final roster.
