SUNRISE, FLA (AP) - Andrew Ladd and Kyle Wellwood each scored goals in a shootout and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 on Monday night.

Evander Kane scored two goals and Wellwood also scored in regulation for Winnipeg. Ondrej Pavelec had a season-high 39 saves for the Panthers.

FULL RECAP

"I don't think it should have gone to the shootout. That's my opinion. Shootouts; don't put yourself in those situations. I think for us, we want to be above .500 in those and obviously we're one-and-one. It's definitely disappointing, coming back here for a big week at home, divisional game, something we needed to have."

- Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell.

1. First Period Domination Except On The Scoreboard: The Panthers had a lot of jump in the opening period, peppering Ondrej Pavelec with 20 shots. Winnipeg on the other hand had just seven on Jose Theodore. It didn't matter in the shot category or the attacking time as the Jets held a 2-1 lead and almost made it through the full 20 if not for a Jason Garrison bomb with 20 seconds remaining on the clock. Before that, Kyle Wellwood (3:44 in) and Evander Kane (PPG, 9:58 mark) had dented the back of the net.

2. Flash's Efforts: Tomas Fleischmann has gotten off to a solid start with the Panthers. Heading into the night, the winger posted points in four straight games and seven points in 10 games. Against the Jets, he almost single handedly beat them as he had a hand in all three goals, including what should have been the game-winner on a power play snipe with just 2:10 remaining in regulation. Fleischmann registered the second assist on Garrison's goal in the first and then tied it on a backhand into the open net 3:13 into the third. His second of the night was a thing of beauty as he walked around a Jets player (or two) and went top shelf for his fifth of the season.

3. Another Tough Loss: Two games after falling to the Senators thanks to a winner in the final five seconds, the Panthers were denied two points as the Jets tied it up with 49.9 seconds left on the clock. After a scoreless overtime, Winnipeg took it in the shootout, scoring twice in the one-on-one session (Andrew Ladd, Wellwood) while the Panthers were blanked by Pavelec. It was the second shootout of the season (October 15 against Tampa Bay) but the first loss. What made the loss so hard to swallow was that the equalizer (Kane's second of the night) was initially waved off vehemently by the one referee on the ice for being knocked in with a high stick before the second referee overruled him. The play went to review and Toronto deemed it a good goal, thus tying the score at three and sending it to a shootout.

Memorable twitter posts from the game.

@MetsPanthersFan: Now for the long ride home. Always shorter when the #flapanthers win.

@mschristymariee: A point's a point but damn we had that one. #FlaPanthers

@tvhpanther2: Disappointing loss tht was a high stick #FlaPanthers

@rinkside: #FlaPanthers finish the month of October 6-4-1, with a .590 points pct., their best start since 1999-00. - editor's note: Start ties first 11 games of 2005-06 season (6-4-1)

Memorable fan posts from the game.

Thomas Ouillette: Sad to lose the SO after all the effort tonight. Jets got lucky with Pavelec in net. They surely didn't earn nor deserve the two points.

Mark Zola: Uuuggghhh 2 minutes and It wouldve been OVER! Just end the games right! Jeez!

Andreas Bergh: They´ve gotta learn to finish games off if they wanna make the playoff.

1. It took just one shot for the Jets to get on the board as Kyle Wellwood scored on the rush just 3:44 into the game. The Panthers on the other hand had peppered Ondrej Pavelec with five shots on net.

5. Tomas Fleischmann has found his groove. With his three-point effort against the Jets, the forward has stretched his point streak to five games (4-3-7). It's his longest poinst streak since a nine-game streak with Washington (7-4-11, 10/30-11/17/09).

18. The Panthers had contributions from everybody, at least on the shot count as every single skater registered at least one shot on net. Leading the way were forward Tomas Fleischmann and defenseman Jason Garrison. For Fleischmann, it tied a career high in shots while the six shots set a new career high for Garrison.

20. Florida put up a season-high 20 shots on net in the opening period (eclipsing the previous mark of 15 set in the second period against Tampa Bay on October 15). The 20 also comes into play in the amount of seconds left on the clock when Jason Garrison scored in the first period to put the Panthers on the board.

568. It was a milestone game for Stephen Weiss as the center moved into third place on the franchise list of games played. The center, who recorded the first assist on Fleischmann's first goal of the night, was tied coming into the game with Olli Jokinen. He now sits behind just two players; Robert Svehla (573) and Radek Dvorak (613).

Tomas Fleischmann
It's probably the first time this has gone to a player on the losing team, but Tomas Fleischmann was an easy pick. The forward figured in all three goals and should have had the game-winner with 2:10 remaining on the clock.

2 Goals, 1 Assist, +1, 6 Shot, 16:06 TOI

After getting two days off, the Panthers return to the ice at the BankAtlantic Center for the second game of their three-game homestand. Florida faces their first Western Conference foe of the season as they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks. The game will be on the minds of many as numerous players have played for the opposing teams in their careers. Jack Skille, Kris Versteeg, Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky have all played for the Blackhawks while Michael Frolik, Rostislav Olesz and Steve Montador have played in Sunrise. The Blackhawks defeated the Predators 5-4 in overtime on Monday night.
