2. Good Comeback Not Enough: For the second straight game, the Panthers found themselves down two goals to the visitors. And for the second straight game, they clawed their way back to tie it and eventually send it to overtime thus garnering at least a point. Jonathan Toews (first period) and Marian Hossa did the damage for the Hawks to propel them to the 2-0 lead. With time running out in the second period, Weiss was able to make it a one goal game and give the Panthers hope. Then it was Ed Jovanovski with the equalizer with just 2:04 remaining in the contest. While it's not what they wanted (in getting down two goals), it shows a lot of resolve on the Panthers end in fighting back from a two goal effort to pick up a point. 3. Shootout Woes: Speaking of points, you never want to leave them sitting on the table but unfortunately that's what happened for the second straight game. Florida has been foiled in the shootout in six straight attempts and seven of the eight shots they've taken this season. The Panthers did win a shootout in their home opener, going 1-3 (Marcel Goc) but have come up empty against Winnipeg and Chicago. Points here or there really add up over the season and a single point could make all the difference in the world. |

Mark Zola: Well...cant say the effort wasn't there...but they forgot there is 3 periods in a game...not 1...get it together guys i dont wanna see comebacks I wanna see US on the board FIRST! Joanne Ruimy: I was going to leave the game after 2nd period, so happy I stayed even if we lost in the shootout, Cats played very well in the 3rd. 1 point is better than none. 1. Following up on his own rebound late in the second, Stephen Weiss scored the Panthers first goal of the game. It was also his first career goal against the Blackhawks. In his previous eight games against Chicago, the Panthers center had recorded two assists. 1. The Panthers and Blackhawks saw limited action on their team's power play as both teams were whistled for just one minor each that resulted in a man advantage. Sami Lepisto went off for tripping 12:00 into the first while Dmitry Kulikov went off for slashing 56 seconds into the third. The teams also had a fighting major as well as coincidental minors. 2. For the second straight game, the Panthers found themselves down 2-0. It was also the second straight game that they came back with two goals of their own to tie it. 5. Despite trailing 1-0 on the scoreboard after one period of play, the Panthers actually outshot the Blackhawks 15-7. Leading the shot parade was forward Scottie Upshall who posted five of those shots (33%). 6. Picking up the second assist on Stephen Weiss' second period goal, Tomas Fleischmann has run his point-streak to a team-high, season-high six games. The winger has posted eight points over that span (4-4-8). |
