SUNRISE, FLA (NHL.com) - Tomas Fleischmann showed his remarkable passing skills Wednesday night, along with the ability to bounce back from a dirty hit.

Fleischmann set up both Florida goals, by Jason Garrison and Kris Versteeg, to help Panthers continue their hot start with a 2-1 victory against the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

FULL RECAP

"We had a big effort tonight. The guys really played strong a full sixty minutes. That's what we needed for sure. We put together some good games but I feel that this was  a pretty good complete game."

- Defenseman Jason Garrison on the Panthers win.

1. Letting Go The Boom: Defenseman Jason Garrison got the Panthers on the board with his eighth goal of the season as he connected on a shot from downtown 10:09 into the opening period. Recording his fourth power play goal of the season, Garrison has been fantastic from the point as his eight goals lead all NHL defensemen. What makes his goals even better as they have all come from just inside of the blueline or near it. Garrison is connecting on 14% of his shots this season and he isn't afraid to use his cannon as he is second on the team in shots (57; only trailing Kris Versteeg's 60). Garrison's howitzer has been fun to watch, if you can slow it down that is and watch the replays.

2. Flash's Resilience: Tomas Fleischmann was having a great game until about midway through the middle stanza. The winger picked up the second assist on Garrison's first period goal after making a move around a defender before putting the pass back to Brian Campbell. He then beautifully set up Versteeg for his 12th of the season with a no look pass from below the goal line. Then midway through the period, Fleischmann was blindsided by an elbow from Rangers forward Andre Deveaux. Laying on the ice for several minutes and Deveaux was given a match penalty for hit to the head. The Panthers couldn't score on the five-minute major, missing a key cog to the man advantage in Fleischmann. Down for awhile, Fleischmann was not out as the came back from the scary hit with less than a minute in the second. The winger finished the gamewith the two assists and 17:52 of ice time.

3. Almost Foiled By Lundqvist: Florida held a distinct shot advantage (38-20) and almost doubled the amount of scoring chances (at least from our point of view) so the score of the game could have been a blow out if not for the heroics of Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist. While facing just seven shots in the opening period, the goaltender was extremely active in the final periods when Florida brought it. Lundqvist turned aside 13 shots in the second and all 17 in the third in keeping New York within striking distance.

4. Jason Garrison put the Panthers on the board with his power play blast 10:06 into the first period. It was his eighth goal of the season. Half of those goals have come on the man advantage, which ties him for the lead (Kris Versteeg).

5. Picking up assists on the Panthers first two goals, Tomas Fleischmann registered the fifth multi-point game of the season. The Flash has 13 helpers on the young season and has 22 points in 20 games

12.
The Panthers allowed eight Rangers shots in the opening period but Florida's defense clamped down allowing just 12 shots over the final 40 minutes. New York only had four shots on net in the second period.

50. The Rangers were physical but putting up 50 hits on the Panthers is mind-boggling. Rangers winger Brandon Dubinsky had almost half of the Panthers total, registering 10 hits compared to the 19 of Florida.

68.
Center Stephen Weiss continued his dominance in the face-off circle as he won 13 of his 19 draws (68%). None bigger were two of the three he won in the final minute after a couple of icings.

Tomas Fleischmann
Tomas Fleischmann had a hand in both Panthers goals, setting up the game-winner with a beautiful no look pass and returned from a scary hit midway through the second.

2 Assists, +1, 17:52 of ice time

Florida closes out their four game homestand Friday night against cross-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. This is already the third meeting between the two at the BankAtlantic Center. Both previous meetings have finished with the one-on-one session. In the Panthers home opener, Marcel Goc scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Panthers a 3-2 victory. Then on November 6th, Tampa Bay came back from three goals down and got the shootout winner from former Panther Dominic Moore for a 4-3 victory. Tampa was beat soundly on Tuesday, falling 7-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in their previous game and enter the game at 9-9-2.
