Blog 242: A Difference In Play

Florida Panthers
Our terrific fans made a great difference in encouraging our team to the great success we had last week. Our entire Florida Panthers organization thanks each and every one of you for your enthusiastic support.

Our Panthers went 3-0-1 in four consecutive home games last week and each exciting matchup was played in front of an incredibly passionate crowd and an amazing atmosphere at the BankAtlantic Center.

With four home games in just seven days, our fans deserve a lot of credit for that atmosphere, particularly with an average attendance of over 16,000 fans per game. But as fans, we know that what really made last week so fun and memorable, was the way the team played.

Wins over Pittsburgh, New Jersey and the New York Rangers and an overtime loss against Tampa Bay confirmed what we had started to suspect – this season’s Panthers team is one to watch.

With an exciting style of play, a never say die attitude, and a great mix of skill and physical ability, our Cats are off to their best start in years, and currently sit at 12-7-4, third in the Eastern Conference and first in the Southeast Division.

When General Manager Dale Tallon and his staff put this team together during the offseason, it was easy to get excited but difficult to know exactly what to expect once the puck dropped on the regular season. But wins and losses aside, there’s no question this team will continue to be worth watching.

We have a lot for our fans to latch on to. In Stephen Weiss, Kris Versteeg and Tomas Fleischmann we have a skilled and dynamic first line that’s put up great scoring numbers thus far. In Ed Jovanovski we have one of the franchise’s favorite sons that has grown in to a great leader both on and off the ice.

In Brian Campbell we have a defenseman that can impact the game in every conceivable facet. In Jose Theodore we have a goaltender that relishes the spotlight and has performed in clutch situations before. And in players such as Dmitry Kulikov, Erik Gudbranson and Jacob Markstrom, we have more reasons to be excited about the not so distant future.

In short, I want to underscore how excited we are about the start to the season, thank our fans again for their support last week, and urge them to continue supporting us all season long because it is sure to be an exciting ride.
