2. Special Teams Continued Success: While Florida's power play only went one-for-four on the night, it was a big goal as Jason Garrison netted his ninth of the season on a rocket on a 5-on-3 power play in the second period. That goal tied the game at one and ultimately netted the Panthers a point to put to their season total. The Cats penalty kill unit did their part in earning that point as they killed off all five Sabres power play chances. Florida has now killed off all 11 opponent's chances in the last three games. In their game against Buffalo, the Panthers allowed eight shots (1.6 shots a power play chance). 3. Scoring On The Rush: Florida did a good job of clogging Buffalo's attack for the most of the night (just 20 shots allowed), but the Sabres earned the two points off of two rushes. First, it was Drew Stafford setting up Roy who had gotten behind the Panthers defense for his seventh of the season as he snapped the puck past Clemmensen with 2:10 left in the opening period. On the game-winner, Pominville was set up by Peter Szczechura after the Sabres captain once again got behind Florida's defense. Pominville scored low on Clemmensen 2:19 into the extra session. It's a lesson learned for the Panthers as they have to keep an eye on the breakout pass by their opponents. |

1. Seeing his fourth action of the season (and third in the last four games), Scott Clemmensen was finally on the losing end of a game. Clemmensen turned asided 18 of the 20 shots he saw as his record fell to 3-1 on the season. 4. Three seperate players recorded four shots on goal, a game high. Florida had two of them as Kris Versteeg and Shawn Matthias threw four pucks on Ryan Miller. Derek Roy (goal) led the way for Buffalo with four shots on Clemmensen. 5. The Panthers penalty kill continues to sparkle of late as they killed off all five Buffalo opportunities. Florida has killed 11-of-11 power play chances over the last three games and are 40-for-43 (93%) on the penalty kill over their last 14 games. 30. Collecting assists on Jason Garrison's second period power play goal, both Versteeg and Tomas Fleischmann registered their 30th point of the season. Versteeg has reached that threshold in 28 games while Fleischmann registered it in one more game. 43. The Panthers and Sabres combined for just 43 shots on goal in their overtime affair. It was the lowest combined shot output this season, four shots fewer than the 47 Florida combined with Winnipeg on November 10. |
