2. Bouncing Back From Adversity: Taking their first minor of the night midway through the second (Tomas Fleischmann off for hooking), the Panthers soon found themselves down two men as Matthias went off for delay of game. Boston held a 5-on-3 power play for 55 seconds, an eternity when it comes to up two men. Florida was almost able to kill it but Bergeron scored with two seconds left in the first penalty to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. It didn't take long for Florida to respond. Killing off the second penalty, Tomas Kopecky found Matthias out of the box and ahead of the Bruins defense. The forward put a move on Rask before slipping the puck past the netminder for his eighth of the season, tying the game at two with 4:06 to play. 3. Chances Late But No Two Points: Tied at two after two, Florida had several golden opportunities to gain the two points against the Bruins. They had several breakaway chances but yet were denied by Rask. With time winding down in the third period, Michal Repik found himself behind the Bruins defense after a pass from Stephen Weiss set him up. Repik had trouble with the puck and got a shot off late but was denied on the rush. Then in overtime, the Panthers really had a chance to earn the two points as Bergeron went off for hooking 36 seconds into the five minute period. The Panthers couldn't get any real scoring opportunity and Boston killed off the penalty. Once again, Florida had another chance to win it on a breakaway with time running out in overtime as Kris Versteeg got behind the Boston defense. It was all for naught as Rask got just enough of it where the puck sat on the goal line for several seconds before being sent to the corner by a Bruins defenseman. With overtime finished, the two teams squared off in the shootout. Weiss gave the Panthers a potential game-winner with his goal on the third opportunity. Needing a save from Clemmensen to preserve the victory, the Panthers couldn't get it as Bergeron extended the game. After Mikael Samuelsson couldn't get a shot off for the Panthers, David Krejci won it by going five-hole on Clemmensen. For Florida it was a disappointing end for such a solid effort all game. Missed opportunities and the fifth shootout loss in seven tries cost the Panthers a point in the standings. |

1. After making a hard check against Boston's Daniel Paille, Ed Jovanovsk squared off against the Bruins winger in a fight 5:14 into the game. It was Paille's first penalty minutes of the season and Jovanovski's first fight of the season. The last fight in a Panther uniform for Jovanovski in fact came back on October 30, 1998, when he took on Mark Janssens in Chicago. |
