Brian Campbell Named Finalist for Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
The National Hockey League announced today that Florida Panthers D Brian Campbell has been selected as a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

Despite ranking T-1st among all NHL skaters (Duncan Keith) in TOI/game (26:53) during the 2011-12 regular season, Campbell totaled only 6 PIM – his first penalty coming after accidentally shooting the puck out of play. The 32-year-old ranked T-2nd among all NHL defensemen with 53 points (4-49-53) and was one of only three Panthers to skate in all 82 regular-season games. He set a Panthers franchise record with 30 power-play assists and tied a franchise record for a defensemen with 49 helpers. As the Panthers’ representative at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, Campbell recorded an assist and led all skaters with a +7 rating and 21:40 TOI.

During his 12-season NHL career, the Strathroy, Ont., native has played in 708 regular season games for Buffalo (2001-08), San Jose (2007-08), Chicago (2008-11) and Florida (2011-12) scoring 58 goals with 307 assists, 173 PIM and a plus-44 rating. The four-time NHL All-Star (2007-09, 2012) won a Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2010.

Campbell was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Florida from Chicago in exchange for LW Rostislav Olesz on June 24, 2011.

The Award winner will be announced at the NHL Awards on June 20 in Las Vegas.

Florida visits the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network and 560 WQAM Sports Radio.
