Panthers Prospect Jonathan Huberdeau Advances to Memorial Cup

Florida Panthers prospect C Jonathan Huberdeau and the Saint John Sea Dogs advanced to the MasterCard Memorial Cup for the second consecutive year after sweeping Rimouski Oceanic in four games to claim the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship Thursday in Rimouski. With the win, the Sea Dogs became the seventh team in QMJHL history to capture back-to-back President Cup championships. 

Huberdeau has played in 15 playoff games with Saint John this season, recording 21 points (10-11-21) and 18 PIM. The 18-year-old led the Sea Dogs in plus/minus rating (+53) and points/game (1.95) during the regular season, totaling 72 points (30-42-72) and 50 PIM in 37 games. The St-Jerome, Que., native was drafted by Florida in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2011 Entry Draft. 

As QMJHL champions, the Sea Dogs qualify for the MasterCard Memorial Cup, where they will attempt to defend their Memorial Cup title. The four-team tournament to name the champion of the Canadian Hockey League runs May 18-27 in Shawinigan, Que.
