Mollerisms: Garrison\'s Franchise Record

Welcome to Mollerisms. FloridaPanthers.com takes a look at some of the best goal calls of 560 WQAM radio play-by-play man Randy Moller from the 2011-12 season.

Moller's interesting goal calls actually date back to the 2007-08 season where he used calls such as "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" and "Top Shelf Where Mrs. Moller Keeps The Peanut Butter". They took on a whole new meaning at the start of the 2008-09 season. While doing a crossover show with Dan Lebatard, Lebatard asked if the crew at 790 The Ticket could make suggestions for goal calls. Then from there it branched out to listeners making suggestions. Randy started using memorable one-liners from movies, songs and just about anything else. Lines such as "We've landed on the moon" from Dumb and Dumber, "We're going to need a bigger boat" from Jaws as well as Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" have been used.

Every Monday during the off-season we will introduce a Mollerism as Moller calls a goal the only way he knows how.

Our next Mollerism looks at Jason Garrison's game-tying goal in Sunrise against the Oilers in the second period on March 23, 2012 as Moller uses a popular advertising phrase.

Coming off a game that saw their season-high five-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes two nights before, the Panthers looked to bounce back against a team they would only see once during the 2011-12 season.

The unfamiliarity between the two teams played into a closely guarded affair. The teams combined for 48 shots between them and only two of them found the back of the net.

It was the visiting Oilers that got on the board first as Ryan Jones finished off an odd-man rush with his 16th of the season just 1:37 into the second period. The lead was short-lived however as Garrison finished off a pretty passing sequence of his own for his 16th of the season.

Heading into the game, Garrison had been tied with former Panthers blueliners Bryan McCabe and Jay Bouwmeester (twice) at the top of the single-season goals count with 15. His tally 4:58 or 3:21 following Jones' goal gave Garrison the record all to himself as he scored off the one-timer from the cross ice pass from Tomas Fleischmann.

Edmonton would eventually win the game in the shootout but the valuable point the Panthers picked up helped them in their push for their first playoff spot in over a decade and first division title ever.

Moller's goal call, as you might hear in advertising slogans all over, made the game fun for everybody.
