Mollerisms: Weiss Pays The Price

Welcome to Mollerisms. FloridaPanthers.com takes a look at some of the best goal calls of 560 WQAM radio play-by-play man Randy Moller from the 2011-12 season.

Moller's interesting goal calls actually date back to the 2007-08 season where he used calls such as "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" and "Top Shelf Where Mrs. Moller Keeps The Peanut Butter". They took on a whole new meaning at the start of the 2008-09 season. While doing a crossover show with Dan Lebatard, Lebatard asked if the crew at 790 The Ticket could make suggestions for goal calls. Then from there it branched out to listeners making suggestions. Randy started using memorable one-liners from movies, songs and just about anything else. Lines such as "We've landed on the moon" from Dumb and Dumber, "We're going to need a bigger boat" from Jaws as well as Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" have been used.

Our next Mollerism looks at Stephen Weiss' second period goal in Sunrise against the Blackhawks on November 3, 2011 as Moller uses a popular catch phrase.

As time wound down in the second period, the Panthers were looking for a much needed spark. Chicago had jumped on the board just 4:04 into the game off a Jonathan Toews tip in and then doubled their lead off of a Marian Hossa goal 4:51 into the second.

Potentially staring at a two-goal deficit with a period left to play, Florida turned to their top line. One of the NHL's top trios through the first month and a half of the season struck on a pretty play that finished with a dirty goal by Weiss with just 1:41 left on the clock. Weiss drove to the net and finished off a rush by Tomas Fleischmann and Kris Versteeg, netting his fifth of the season to bring the Cats to within one. For Weiss, it was his 11th point in the first 12 games.

The Blackhawks held that lead for most of the third period but with an all-out offense by the home team (14 shots in the third), relented a goal late in the game. That came off the stick of defenseman Ed Jovanovski as he tipped in a shot with 2:04 left on the clock, sending the crowd and home team into a frenzy and the game into overtime.

Chicago would end up winning the game in the shootout as Patrick Kane was the only skater to find the back of the net but the point the Panthers picked up thanks to the comeback helped them in their push for their first playoff spot in over a decade and first division title ever.

Moller's goal call was made popular by Gary Coleman during his days on Diff'rent Strokes from 1978-86 as he doled out the famous catch phrase "What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?".
