SUNRISE, FLA – Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon today announced that former defenseman Bryan McCabe will join the Panthers hockey operations staff as the club’s manager of player development. McCabe will work closely with Director of Player Development Brian Skrudland in monitoring the progress and development of the organization’s prospects.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to return to the Panthers and start another chapter in my career,” said McCabe. “I will certainly draw on my 16 years in the league in order to serve as a mentor for the Panthers’ younger players and help them as they develop in their own careers.”
“I am excited to welcome Bryan back to the Panthers organization,” said Tallon. “We are honored to have someone with his hockey experience and insight joining our hockey operations staff.”
McCabe, 37, played in 1,135 NHL games for the New York Islanders (1995-98), Vancouver (1997-99), Chicago (1999-2000), Toronto (2000-08), Florida (2008-11) and the New York Rangers (2010-11) scoring 145 goals and 383 assists with 1,732 PIM. He was drafted 40th overall out of the Western Hockey League by the New York Islanders in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
The St. Catherines, Ont., native was named the Panthers’ captain in September 2009 and held the role through his time with Florida.
McCabe also played for Team Canada in numerous international tournaments, including the 2006 Winter Olympics and the 1999 IIHF World Championship.
The Panthers are set to open the 2012-13 season Oct. 13 against the Tampa Bay Lightning and will raise a Southeast Division Championship banner in a pre-game ceremony.
