By The Numbers: Filip Kuba

Panthers By The Numbers takes a closer look at some of the interesting stats that you may or may have not known about.

2011-12 SEASON FOR FILIP KUBA

2. - Filip Kuba had two game winners last season for the Ottawa Senators. In both instances, the game winners he had were the only goals he scored all game. Against the Flyers on January 8th, Kuba fired a slap shot from the left point to put the Senators up for good and against Montreal on March 16th he scored the game winner in Overtime to keep the Senators atop the Northeast Division at that time.

3. - The defenseman showed his worth last season in his three multi-point games. He had a three-point game against the Rangers on October 29th and two point games against Boston on January 31st and Tampa Bay on March 6th.

3:23. - When the other team was on the power play, Kuba was usually there to help make up the difference with his physical play. Last season, Kuba led the Senators in short handed time per game with 3:23.

23:36. - Along with the most short-handed time per game, Kuba had the second most time on Ice per game on the team with an average of 23:36. In total that is 1,723:48, which was only behind fellow defenseman Erik Karlsson.

26. - The Ostrava, Czech Republic native achieved the best player rating on the team and the ninth best in the NHL with a plus-26. He greatly improved from the year prior as he flipped his last season rating of minus-26. Kuba showed how efficient he can be on the ice and he will look to continue that this season for the Panthers.

29.0. - As you would expect, with a lot of minutes come a lot of shifts per game. Kuba lead the Senators with 29 shifts per game. In total that equates to 2,115 shifts during the season. Kuba’s durability should be an asset the Panthers look to use to their advantage.

32. - Kuba tallied 32 points for the Senators with the majority coming from assists (26). The 32 points was the third best of his NHL career and his best total since the 2008-2009 season. Hopefully, Kuba can replace the void left by defenseman Jason Garrison who is now a member of the Canucks.

149. - Kuba showed why he is such a good defenseman with his 149 blocked shots last season which was the most on the team. If Kuba had played for the Panthers last season, he would have been best on the team as well. Mike Weaver had 137 and Garrison had 124.

300. - On December 23rd, Kuba scored his 300th point in a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers hope to see plenty of points from the defenseman for years to come.
