On The Farm: Busy Week, Tough Decisions Ahead
A floridapanthers.com exclusive, Panthers Assistant General Manager and San Antonio Rampage general manager Mike Santos will be sharing his thoughts with Panthers and Rampage fans throughout the year in his blog entitled On The Farm.
Hello again from San Antonio.
San Antonio Rampage training camp in the Alamo City is well underway, as the team just completed their fifth practice this morning. Our players arrived to camp in good shape and we have been very pleased with the energy and intensity in our practices and intra-squad scrimmages.
Head Coach Chuck Weber and Assistant Coach Jason Cipolla have worked the players hard each day in a variety of different practices, but just as important our guys are smiling and enjoying the experience. After each practice the players also take part in off-ice dry land training that includes time for some team bonding activities.
This afternoon we will make the 90-minute bus trip to Austin for our first preseason game this evening against the Texas Stars. Tonight’s game gives our staff the opportunity to further evaluate our players and see how they preform and compete in a game situation. After our game tonight, we return to San Antonio and will host Texas in our final preseason game tomorrow afternoon at the Rampage’s practice facility.
With 36 players in camp we have a lot of decisions to make on the roster, before the Rampage open the American Hockey League season at home on Oct. 13. Some of the players who do not make our roster in San Antonio will be assigned to our ECHL affiliate the Cincinnati Cyclones as early as this weekend.
It promises to be a busy weekend for the Rampage as they close out the first week of training camp, with several important roster decisions on the horizon.
