Panthers Foundation Named Outstanding Foundation by the National Philanthropy Day Awards

SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment today announced today that the Florida Panthers Foundation has been named Outstanding Foundation as part of the 25th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards, presented by Signature Grand. The Fort Lauderdale/Broward Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals made the announcement after Broward Health Foundation nominated the Florida Panthers Foundation, thanks in part to the Panthers’ active role at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital and its eighth-floor pediatric oncology wing.

“We’re incredibly honored to have the Panthers Foundation receive such a prestigious award as we support the fight against pediatric cancer,” said Panthers General Partner and Chairman of the Florida Panthers Foundation Cliff Viner. “This recognizes the hard work of the employees and Board of our Foundation, the employees of Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, and the staff of the many wonderful charities and hospitals we work with.”

The general public nominated outstanding Broward philanthropists whose contributions have made a significant impact in the organizations they serve and the community as a whole. The Florida Panthers Foundation were one of eight awards honored at a luncheon yesterday at Signature Grand in Davie.

In 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclomation officially recognizing National Philanthropy Day. Since then, the day has been recognized by numerous states, provincial and local governements across North America, including the Fort Lauderdale/Broward Chapter of AFP. Over the past 24 years, the Fort Lauderdale/Broward Chapter has honored more than 100 individuals and organizations for their significant philanthropic contributions to the local community.

The mission of the Florida Panthers Foundation is to build a better future for the children of South Florida. Through philanthropic partnerships, grants, donations and community outreach programs, the Foundation maintains a focus on children’s health, fitness, education and cultural needs. During the 2010 season the Florida Panthers Foundation implemented the Panthers Pledge for Pediatric Cancer, which outlines our determined efforts to support children and families battling pediatric cancer.
