San Antonio Rampage

HAMILTON (December, 22, 2012)- The San Antonio Rampage (11-17-0-3) head into the holiday break on a high note after defeating the Hamilton Bulldogs (10-14-1-2), 5-2, Saturday night at Copps Coliseum.

Casey Wellman had a goal and two assists while Greg Rallo was name First Star of the Game. Dov Grumet-Morris made 31 saves off of 33 shots in the win. The win was Grumet-Morris’ first in seven weeks dating back to a shutout of the Oklahoma City Barons on November 4th.

The Rampage struck twice on the power play in the win, they previously had only one goal on the man-advantage in their last six games.

San Antonio once again opened strong, outshooting the Bulldogs 16-10, but it was Hamilton who was able to strike first. Gabriel Dumont skated in on the left side and fired a shot that beat Grumet-Morris blocker side 1:22 into the game.

The Bulldogs struck again at 5:34 of the second period when Mike Blunden blasted a wrist shot from the right circle after getting a pass from the boards.

Hamilton tied San Antonio in shots in the second period, 11-11, but this time it was San Antonio who cashed in on their opportunities.

Jon Rheault got the Rampage on the board at 8:16 of the second period when his bad angle shot deflected in off the skate of Cody Wild and past Bulldogs’ goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. The goal was Rheault’s eighth of the season.

Greg Rallo sent San Antonio to the second intermission with momentum when he cashed in on a power play at 18:48 of the second period. Wellman found Rallo open on the left wing side where he fired a one-timer to make it 2-2 going into the final frame.

Drew Shore gave the Rampage their first lead of the night at 2:33 of the third period on the power play. San Antonio broke into the zone when Jon Sim found Shore skating to the slot, Sim got him the puck and Shore buried it to make it 3-2.  It was Shore’s first goal in 14 games and the second for the Rampage on the man-advantage.

Alex Petrovic would score off a shot from the point at 16:23 of the third period while Wellman put one into an empty net at 18:59 to seal the 5-2 win.

Despite Hamilton owning the second best penalty kill in the league at home (41-for-44, 93.2%) the Rampage scored twice to finish 2-for-5 on the night. Hamilton could not convert on their four opportunities and lost the shot battle as well, 44-33
