Panthers Agree To One-Year Contract With RW Alex Kovalev

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers Executive VP/General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with RW Alex Kovalev on a one-year contract.

“Alex is a veteran player with great skill and vision who we are pleased to have signed,” said Tallon. “He is a talented forward with playmaking abilities, who has experienced success both at the National Hockey League level and in international competition. We look forward to his contributions to our club both on and off the ice.”

Kovalev, 39, has played in 1,302 NHL games with New York (1992-1999 & 2002-2004), Pittsburgh (1998-2003 & 2010-2011), Montreal (2005-2009) and Ottawa (2009-2011) scoring 428 goals with 596 assists and 1,024 points. He has appeared in 123 postseason contests, recording 100 points (45-55-100), while winning a Stanley Cup with New York in 1994. Throughout his 18-year playing career, Kovalev has recorded at least 50 points (10-times), scored at least 20 goals (12-times) and had at least 30 assists (11-times).

The Togliatti, Russia, native is a three-time NHL all-star (2001, 2003 & 2009). Kovalev has represented his country internationally eight times during his career, winning gold medals at the 1992 Winter Olympics and 1992 World Junior Championship, and bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
