Rest And Regroup

After arriving at their downtown Philadelphia hotel just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the Panthers will have little time to dwell on their 3-2 overtime loss with seconds remaining that they suffered on Tuesday night in Winnipeg.

“That’s the good thing about our schedule, we get to play again on Thursday (against the Flyers) and put this game behind us,” Panthers rookie center Drew Shore said after the overtime loss Tuesday night.

The 22-year old rookie has been settling in nice with the Panthers. He has recorded an assist in each of his last two games played, along with 19 shots on goal and a 60.7 face-off winning percentage, in seven games played since being recalled from San Antonio.

Florida’s overtime loss in Winnipeg snapped a two-game winning streak for the Cats and it marked the first time that the Panthers have played a game in overtime this season, after going into the extra frame 25 times last year.

With almost one quarter of the shortened NHL season behind them, Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen understands the importance of his team continuing to pick up points in the standings.

“We scratched and clawed and earned a point tonight, but it feels more like a point lost than a point gained,” said Dineen. “We played a good road game and thought we could have had two points tonight.”

With the one point, the Panthers have now earned at least one point in their last three games (2-0-1) played and currently sit a 1-0-1 on their four-game road trip.

“We are heading in the right direction, but we are not there yet,” said Dineen.

NOTES

The Panthers did not practice on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Florida plays their third game of a four-game road trip against the Flyers on Thursday night. The two clubs last met on Jan. 26 in South Florida with the Flyers defeating the Panthers 7-1.

Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson arrived in Winnipeg on Tuesday afternoon after a two-game conditioning stint with San Antonio (AHL), but did not dress against the Jets.
