2. A Huge Power Play: Despite taking the early lead, the Panthers would find themselves in a tied game less than a minute later as Jakub Voraek scored on a power play from the just outside the face-off circle, beating Jose Theodore short side. Then early in the second period, Theodore had the puck for what looked to be trapped under his blocker but play continued and the Flyers dug the puck out and Matt Read scored top shelf from just outside the crease for a Flyers lead. Despite chances, the Panthers entered the third period trailing 2-1. Almost midway through the Cats got their fourth power play of the game and were able to finally capitalize on the opportunity. Just 10 seconds in, Stephen Weiss picked up the puck and beat Bryzgalov top shelf, tying the game with 8:35 gone. 3. Stretching The Streak: After that goal, the Flyers ramped up the energy and had chance after chance in the third period and then in overtime but Theodore was a brick wall. He stopped Daniel Briere on a couple of chances, Read on another and Flyers captain Claude Giroux on a couple more. With a point in hand, the Panthers looked for the second in the shootout and Panthers fans must have been pleased to see, especially with past shootout struggles, to see the Cats newest forwards in the lineup. First it was 19-year old rookie Jonathan Huberdeau who used what should be his "patented" deke and converted like he did all through Juniors. After Theodore stoned Read on the first shot, Peter Mueller came up and fired a quck low shot past Bryzgalov. All that was needed for the win was for Theodore to stop Giroux and that he did. A team effort as the Cats ran their point streak to four games (3-0-1). They'll have one game left on the road but it's already been a successful road trip as they've taken five out of six points. |
