2. Offense Opens Up: If you thought the offense was going in the second, then it was really flowing in the middle stanza. The two teams combined for 21 shots and four goals, three which came in less than a five minute span. Hard to keep up if you were just watching the game casually. The Caps knotted the score at two as Karl Alzner scored off a face-off 5:33 in. Then it was a pretty double redirect as Jonathan Huberdeau redirected Erik Gudbranson's point shot with Peter Mueller getting his stick on the puck first on the way to the net 3:15 later. The Capitals would tie it once again less than two minutes later (10:21 mark) as Matt Hendricks scored on a backhand from just outside the goal crease. Huberdeau would put the finishing touches for the scoing in the period with 1:34 to play as he scored while crashing the net. It was such a back-and-forth period in Sunrise. 3. Unable To Close: It looked like the Panthers would celebrate on home ice and with thanks in large part to the "Kid Line" but instead it was a heartbreaking loss as the Capitals fought back from two down to win in overtime. Drew Shore had the fans celebrating as he stuffed home his first NHL goal 6:25 into the third for the 5-3 lead. The Panthers defense was holding against the Capitals attack but Eric Fehr made it an one-goal game as he redirected Mike Green's shot past Scott Clemmensen with just 5:07 left on the clock. Then after Huberdeau was whistled for a slashing penalty, the Capitals won the draw and Alex Ovechkin blasted home a shot with four seconds gone on the call and 2:49 left to play, tying it up. Despite the tied game, the Panthers had a perfect opportunity to come out with the two points as Washington took a penalty with 1:45 to play. Florida couldn't get set up and the Capitals killed it off and scored 17 seconds later, 32 seconds into overtime, as Troy Brouwer netted his second game-winner in as many games. |

2. It was a great game for the kid line offensively as they each recorded two points on the night. Jonathan Huberdeau recorded the first mutliple goal game of his career while Drew Shore potted his first NHL goal and added an assist. Peter Mueller picked up the first assist on both of Huberdeau's tallies. |
